Thank God you are all typing this and not saying it, by now you would have considerably contributed to Global Warming.
Ahh, Friday. Speculation day;
The John Key/Diplomatic Protection Squad is a doozy.
How about this one. Jamie Lockett, high profile undercover intelligence officer, just look at the guy's history and speculate.
The word Terrorism, the 2004 US elections saw the Republican use that word so many times that it almost seemed an act of treason not to use it. In fact if you remove that word from much of the rhetoric that is bandied about it all starts to make more sense. ie. instead of the Terrorism Suppression Act we just call it the Suppression Act. And for all of you that are saying this law is better than waiting until a "terrorist" act has been committed I think you're wrong. You have more chance of being hit by a bus, should we be arresting people for thinking about becoming bus drivers?
In todays news, man arrested in Ohio for planning to set up a military style training camp. Whatever next? -
Probably very good advice, but in the context of this thread don't you think it was just a wee bit gratuitous and flat out weird?
No I thought it was a non-serious comment. And there's enough crazy serious comments flying around this month to take aim at.

I was 'bemused' that Imran Khan was arrested in Pakistan under their Terrorism Suppression Act. Luckily we don't have to worry about there in NZ because no politician would use the act for political purposes ... public safety yes, but not for political purposes. Nosiree.

Finn - There is a NZ aspect to pacifisim that Iti was fully aware of and (I think) maintains an allegence to.

Craig, yes, I was taking the piss.
But boy, your threat to eviscerate me had me pretty nervous nonetheless, and it made me realise again that responding to (what one perceives as) absurdity with elaborate counter-absurdity is a dangerous bloody rhetorical game. (And it's also kind of lazy.)
Everyone's seeming understandably tetchy, and I'm gonna bow out for a while (cos I'm busy, and cos I've said more than my share, and cos I've drained my limited reserves of knowledge or thoughtfulness), but I'd really like to see those with the stomach and patience for it to keep up an unpleasant but possibly useful conversation.
And Kowhai: it means "Get Off Your Friggin High Horse". (Not you, of course....)
(I think that's the first time in my life I've used an f-word succedaneum; I must be feeling conciliatory.)

Lock Marc Ellis up - he's admitted using an incendiary device - smoke BOMBS - to shock (is that Terrorise?) the community.

Not really. The DPS doesn't comment on security matters, full stop, so we don't actually know a damn thing about the 'written advice' or how it was arrived at, do we?
I don't regard the Key comments as an explicit threat; more an indication of the loony state of mind of those involved.
But even if one were to err on the side of caution, the "freedom fighters" referred to attacking Key as Prime Minister, in Wellington. It's fairly obvious that the very last place they'd have a crack at him would be on their own marae, as a guest.

There was a bizarre puff piece on Ellis' 'guerrila marketing' antics on 20/20 last night. It seemed like someone at the last minute decided it would be a PR sellout to actually give any screentime to the actual product he was marketing. So instead all we got was lots of footage of him being 'a larrikan' with 'his mates' blowing shit up. And grinning "Boy, we're gonna get into trouble with this!".

I saw it live this morning. I thought it was funny. But not very PC. My 5 y.o. daughter walked in just as Tama Iti's bared butt was wiggling in slo-mo. She laughed, but I think Family First should have warned me of this outrage.

Some of it was funny I guess, some was.. cheap. Haha Maori on the dole etc. Meh.
I actually hadn't seen much of the tv coverage of the hikoi. That young man simulating cutting his throat with a machete or something. No doubt it's theatre, but that disturbs me. I couldn't have stuck around at a protest where someone did that.
I never had a problem with the new AB haka doing the simulated throat cutting. I'll have to tie down why the two are so different for me.
