*just to show you all that I am more than a hobbit troll*
The idea of a left wing party sounds pretty alright to me. But it has to appeal to an audience that is beyond that of the whole ban-the-bomb-and-stop-the-tour crowd who attend Das Kapital discussion groups in university cafes and call themselves a 'workers party'.
As unpalateble as it may sound, it will *have* to attract some of the Red Tory vote, the one that Winston has locked up.

*just to show that I am not soley into trolling about hobbits*
A new left wing party. Sounds good, I would vote for it.
But for a left party to have a half-pie chance of succeeding, it needs to broaden its appeal to beyond ban-the-bomb-and-stop-the-tour-types who attend Das Kapital book discussion groups in university cafes, yes I am looking at you, Workers Party.

"Not nearly and it's because the participants give a damn and listen"
Fair enough - anyway, I have found this to be a much more pleasant a place than the the rest of the blog sites.
"given that I've been loudly critical (and roundly rubbished for being so) of the lashings of corporate welfare handed out to the Rugby World Cup,"
I have always had the position that Rupert should be funding it - its only his networks that are going to make any sort of profit out of it.

Speaking of which, I think Don Brash would be spitting tacks at this 'deal' - so would Roger Douglas.

You know this thread has had almost 1600 posts?
Is that some sort of record on here?

I know enough to know that I would rather be an employee than an independent contractor, which is what is going to be imposed on thousands of workers around the country.

I think you'll find, Brendon, it is two of the Very Biggest Films Ever Made.
$600 million dollars - you know, with that Jackson could have quite easily employed all of his workers, and given them things like sick leave, breaks, overtime, etc..
-
But you guys support them because you want your precious film. Quite frankly, Trotter is right about you guys. You are scabs, everyone who marched on that rally on Labour Day. marching to destory the union movement and make every single worker an independent contractor.
-
Well, you guys got what you wanted. Your precious little film is going to be made here, and a lot of workers are going to see their wages and conditions being eroded, courtesy of the Hobbit Act.
I would have thought you PA members to be better than that, support the right of all workers to organise for decent pay and conditions, but you want to put the boot still into the very organisations that you should be down on your knees thanking every day for the fact that you have sick pay, ACC, annual leave, breaks, overtime, etc.

Sorry Deb,
I meant 'we' as a nation?
