Quite liked Clay Nelson's article wonder if George and friends have seen the parallel obsessions between fundamentalist Christians and fundamentalist Muslims? Fundamentalist anything has me running for the hills........

Do Community Board members and/or their decisions have any influence on Council decisions?
Does your Community Board have a view on this issue? Have you communicated it to your fellow City Vision colleague and Counciller. Bruce Hucker?
Will you also support no billboards during local authority and national elections?

Apologies - that'll teach me to read more than one thing with my coffee ;-) The photos are not in the Herald but in Akld City's CityScene and are online here

You'll notice that the Hair Co (Toni & Co) and the physio signs ahve been reduced in size. The real estate agents, cafe and antique shops signs have gone completely!

There's a huge difference between large billboards that dominate the skyline and those that advertise a legit business.
If you take a look at the photos in the HardCopy Herald (can't seem to find them in the e-version) you will see 2 photos of the small number of shops at the intersection of Ranfurly Rd and Manukau Rd in Epsom.
The 'before' and 'after' billboard bylaw changes shots actually show you how hard it may be to locate a business under the proposed new regime. If you are not allowed to place even your business name in a visible spot how are you meant to attract customers?
Another annoying feature of Auckland businesses is that few commercial premises have streets numbers visible so you can spend a long and fruitless search driving/walking up and down a length of road to locate the right building.

Hate to see us end up like the UK portaryed in Jamie Oliver's "Return to School" programme the other night on One.
It's not just about missing breakfast but about WHAT the kids are eating. So many of today's behaviour issues can be directly attributable to the total crap that goes into their systems.
When large bottles of Coke are selling for 2 for $5 and 2 litrres of milk costs $4.55 a bottle it's not hard to see where some households will spend their $
School provided breakfasts/lunches can work but it's a question of how - money in their hot little hands never makes it to the healthy stuff at school. I should know when Mum used to give me 75c for a school lunch order - filled roll and drink - I'd spend it on crap on the way to or from school.
And this has got to more than a political football as we see the results of pooe nutrition and parental supervision in our crime statistics

Andrew from Sydney, you need to urgently register at www.telecomvirtualrugby.co.nz before 5pm NZ time tonight otherwise you'll be a game down!

SI has always been hit and miss for me. Funniest site of the ski season - my sis desperately hanging out the upper storey window of our rented house in Wanaka with her new Telecom datacard in her laptop trying to get coverage to download an urgent client email, and freezing her butt off, whilst I merrily sat in front of the fire getting email on my Vodafone Blackaberry with no bother. Ah, the joys of telecomms and doing business in NZ.
