Hard News: Friday Music: Mo' Nina, in reply to
Found a stream of the song here: http://www.ricko.co.nz/russia.htm

Is Russia the band that did that song 'Lisa' back in the day? Still have that on 7" - a great under-stated (and under-rated) Kiwi pop song.

Pretty sure I saw The Bird Nest Roys open for Sneaky Feelings at The Cricketers (or maybe the Clyde Quay) in Welli sometime in the mid-80s - maybe Ian Dalziel has a poster for that to jog my memory!

Because it's pretty much the only music my sons listen to, I've learned to appreciate some current hip-hop like Drake, Kendrick and yes, Kanye, but it took me a long time to get past the language. Not the bling, but the constant sexual references. Mind you, I didn't have a clue what most of my teenage musical heroes were singing about.
Being more from the new wave/post punk era I never really got into early hip-hop - got a lot of catching up to do one day.
On a side-note, Bill Cosby's interactions with QuestLove and the rest of The Roots on the Jimmy Fallon show are pretty hilarious, worth checking out on the interwebs...

... human-curated music discovery service
Hey they could have saved a couple of billion and bought this blog! I mean seriously, are Jimmy Iovine's ears worth that much?
Thanks though RB for coming out to see the other RB this morning - and we'll get that rider sorted ASAP...

Yeah blame Lontalius, works for me. On the subject of short songs though, how aboutThe Residents' Commercial Album... each song one minute short...

My first curry was in my first real job as a junior advertising copywriter in Wellington in 1984. it took a few months for the more senior creatives to invite me to one of their lunch sorties - from memory at a Burmese restaurant in Willis St. An unforgettable experience - like your taste buds were alive for the first time...

That Quatro track is a keeper... the Suzi Quatro Story compilation was top of my christmas list for 1975. Reckon things went downhill after that for Suzi with her Happy Days cameo and that song with the guy from Smokie...
My Dunedin Double is still in good nick so I won't be after that on Record Store Day - I'll be saving up for the LCD Soundsystem live set, if any copies reach our shores in time.

Why complain that people are discussing the major selling point of something?
Fair point, sorry more of an observation than a complaint really, it certainly seems to be a topic that resonates (no pun intended).
Agree with Moz that anything that leads to less shitty plastic (i.e. CDs) is worthy of support… -
Man, so many responses about the format and so few on the music! At a certain age, does one start meaning more than the other?
Anyway, back to the music.
I have high hopes for the Grayson Gilmour album - love the tracks I've heard so far. Will also check out the @Peace ... btw Eddie is opening for both acts at their Welli album launch gigs, as Lontalius and Race Banyon respectively.
And re the whole Neil Young thing - amazed he can hear anything after four decades of Crazy Horse...
