The terrible, frightening Trump is likely to win because so many possible Hillary voters can't vote: voter registration difficulties+++ for black Americans; boundary changes etc.
So many Republican Senators are every bit as determined to get elected/re-elected by whatever means as they are to support Trump's election.. -
Is this in part an endeavour to counter the End Of Life Choice Bill currently before the Health Select Committee?
- so the populace won't know of deliberate peaceful exits from Life? -
Also, the land south, and north of Auckland is good horticultural land... we need to eat.
All past cities and empires eventually fell because they could not feed themselves from nearby .. or have enough water.
Auckland is crazy to consider expanding into these productive areas. -
I remember that a number of large Head Offices trans-located from Wellington to Auckland in the 1990's and early 2000's. They weren't manufacturers/exporters.. but they took very many jobs away and Wellington has not recovered. Plus earthquake risk is considerably greater that active Volcano activity.

OnPoint: Yeah nah, but what *do* we…, in reply to
expects their children, close friends and colleagues to call them “sir”.
Certainly, children calling their parents "sir" and ma'am" is common in the USA [according to films etc].

Just a comment in respect of "King Charles of New Zealand":
Charles is only unpopular be cause he is not handsome and his ears stick out way too much and his parents did not get them cosmetically changed when he was a boy, poor chap.
He cares about the environment and shows it in words and some actions. He is the "most progressive" of the British Royal Family ever.
Presidents around the world do not inspire me to think that getting rid of this harmless figurehead for an elected one is a good idea.
Re the Flag: it is historic for this country and looks quite good flying.
I would have preferred something along the Hunderwasser one, but certainly 'PLACE" is what it should represent some day when or if we are a Republic. -
All surveys of "trust-worthiness" have Politicians as the least trusted. It takes guts and determination for most, to work towards being elected.. and it is done to try and effect change of some kind, in the way NZ is, economically and socially.
It is no help for democracy, and the necessary public participation, to have yet more, typically, concentration by the media on peripheral behaviours.
I am all for the rules.
I do not trust the editors of multi-millionaire owners of our papers, to provide us with real political discourse, even if the press gallery journalists provide this, along with theatre.
