I'm currently re-reading Making Money and i must (guiltily) say Im enjoying it as much as most other Pratchett I've read. But then, I work for a bank so most of the jokes hit me right where I live.
Favourite Pratchett though is still Night Watch, closely followed by any of the other Sam Vimes novels.

Thanks for the links Haydn, am definitely buying myself a Championship Vinyl T Shirt for Christmas!

It seems they'll persist with the same team makeup for wellington too, albeit with Elliott chucking down a few more overs. That doesn't seem that smart either, with both Elliot (knee) and Vettori (shoulder?) also carrying injuries. Losing one mid test would be a huge problem, but both... who do you go to next, Taylor to lob down a few?
This kind of side is OK in a one-day game, but the imbalance could be horribly exposed in the next test.

I was keen to talk cricket too Matthew, but didn't want to derail. But since you went there...
The victory was satisfying, but should have happened a lot more comfortably than that - Im just getting tired of the second-innings capitulations our top order seem to specialise in.
Im also frustrated by Bond's injury. Not with Bond himself, who (as Matthew noted above) was a class apart, but by the fact he was put in that position in the first place. It is ridiculous taking only 4 specialist bowlers into a test, given our bowling attack's propensity for injury. I mean it's Bond's first test after how many years, and he's given that kind of workload? Madness.
OTOH, Its undeniable that strengthening the batting lineup paid dividends. I mean, where would we have been without Peter Fulton's contribution, for example?

Robbie Deans can bitch all he likes about cynical play and what not but he still didn't beat us this year. And of course Canterbury have collapsed since he left… oh….
Of course, you could argue that Canterbury's continued strength enhances his rep as a leader, rather than detracts from it, in that he created a culture and systems with the strength to outlast his tenure.
I don't think you can sheet all the Wallabies failings back to Deans. He's polished that turd as much as he can but its still a turd. Hey - maybe he needs Sam Mahon as an assistant coach!

The video's pulled already. Those copyright lawyers must never sleep.
Didn't watch the fight. Not surprised Tua won, but I did think Cameron would stretch it longer than 2 rounds. This was Cameron's second fight against world-class opposition* and he's now 0-2. End of his career?
And after this, whither David Tua? 37's not over-the-hill in boxing terms (Foreman won the title at 45!), can he use this as a ticket back to the top table or is it just a sideshow?
*Ok I know Tua's not exactly Klitschko, but he's still a step up in class from the truck drivers and bouncers Cameron's fought up until now.

It disturbs me that Labour appears to be trying to woo voters back by being more like National.
Well National won last year by becoming more like Labour, so you can't blame Labour for thinking the reverse might be worth a crack.

A few people have said we missed a prime opportunity to have a look at a quality ANZC 2nd 5/8, but Im yet to see any names put out there. Cruden's been mentioned (and rightly so) as a promising 10, but who's the next best at 12?
Serious question BTW, please don't mistake this as any kind of backhanded defence of Donald. He's the Anna Kournikova of rugby. (OK thats a piss-poor analogy but Im sure you know what I mean).
Have to agree with what's been said upthread re the lineout issue - while it would help if Hore didn't throw like a blind hiccuping darts player, the caller has to take some of the responsibility. Á few people have said that there's no point throwing to 2/4 with Matfield standing 3 feet away from you, but there's a hell of a lot more to lineouts than that. Flat throws, lobbed throws, changes of timing and other subtle variations mean that an experienced lineout pack should be winning their own ball at the front even if Yao Ming is contesting the throw. 2 and 4 can and should be money ball regardless of the opposition, IF THE LINEOUT IS WELL COACHED. Plus, as others have mentioned, a few quick wins gives the unit confidence. Then by all means start looking for the long throws to set an attacking platform from.

but if any good ones in and around Christchurch could be recommended these guys & girls would be most appreciative.
Big shout out for Harringtons Breweries, specifically their "Classy Red" American Pale Ale - a big rich complex but well balanced Ale. My favourite though is their Rogue Hop Pilsner, very drinkable, not dissimilar to Emersons. Harringtons have their own bottlestores around CHCH, check them out.
Also worth checking out is "the thirsty bloke" bottlestore on Victoria St. Rubbish name but great bottlestore, they often have Emersons & Green Man on tap by the 1/2 G.

Oh get a room already, you two. The sexual tension is getting unbearable.
