  • Hard News: Flu diversions,

I agree with others here, that why spend time remaking (or ruining) old shows and movies when there are so many unfinished stories out there. For example, the third series of The Tripods covering the material in the last novel in the series; The Pool of Fire was never made - there is, in fact, already a script!

  • Hard News: Flu diversions,

I've got (or had) a book describing the worst of the worst. I've always hankered to see Eegah featuring a pre James Bond Jaws & a chap called Arch Hall Jr (his dad directed) who was described as an all singing & dancing and acting phenomenon exactly unlike Ricky Nelson.

I've seen it - you will most easily find a copy by searching for MST3K episodes.

  • Hard News: Flu diversions,

(Who wrote the rule that every postmillenial sci-fi tortured detective must own a supercar to crash as a plot point later on? Or is this just a standard movie detective trope that chimes neatly with the interests of carmakers?)

Just FYI, Rick Deckard, the most tortured most sci-fi cop, doesn't own or crash a supercar. He does find a toad with a hovercar though, not sure if that counts.

I still contend that __Manos: The Hands of Fate__ is the worst film ever made (you haven't lived until you've seen the stage production!), but it's not really sci-fi until you add Joel and the Robots. My second pick is __Nude on the Moon__. Awe inspring.

  • Hard News: Flu diversions,

I'm going to give it a go. There seems to be plenty of well seeded torrents floating around internet. I'm too young to have seen the original, do you guys think it's necessary to watch the older one to really appreciate the new one? Personally, I think anything with Freema in it will make me go squee regardless.

A remake of DTESS just sounds terrible. It's a pity it's not more like the Logan's Run remake which has had so many changes of director and screenwriter that it looks hopeful it'll never be made.

  • Speaker: Copyright Must Change,

That actually helps clarify my thoughts on how to approach it sitewide.

Russell, I wistfully remember the halcyon days before copyright was to become an issue for "Joe the Plumber". I remember you emailing copies of the Hard News for posting on my BBS and thus off to fidonet. We never had to discuss the copyright or distribution terms, although for all we new the hard news could have been reprinted every week in Equador.

  • Hard News: Prospects,

There was a large number of democratic units and their kidlets present at my local polling booth - Devonport Presbyterian Church Hall. I would like to say that the large number of children present was due to their parent's excellent commitment to civics, but instead I suspect it had more to do with the pony rides and face painting across the street at the St Leos' School Fair (a chocolate fish to anyone who can explain why a privately funded Catholic School in an high socio-economic area needs to hold a fund raiser).
