Thankyou thankyou I'm so pleased to see a sensible response that knows what it's talking about. The cries of woe and 'Auckland Council is out of control' are just so unhelpful,
On another note - as a local board member I have been trying to find out about Council IT ever since AC began, but Boards are deemed never to need to know a thing about it. No, we cannot develop anything, no, we cannot know anything.... Every other piece of arcane infrastructure yes, but IT? nothing. -
The one piece of cheer in that article is 0/10 for Banks

It takes a government to establish a new public service TV channel and if it's not already Labour policy I'll be surprised. Campbell Live redux on TV7 redux?

Delighted to see the tenor of this conversation! When I hear - or used to - that family group conferences are admired in other places, or that our relations Pakeha & Maori aren't perfect but even as such are felt to be impressive - in those ways I feel proud of my country - and conversely youth suicide and family violence and inequality make me want to change my country. Patriotic for its own sake - simplistic and competitive with others. Not our style.

Up Front: Good to Go?, in reply to
Euan, marriage definitely does not imply consent, though it used to - rape is rape, also within marriage. This has been the case legally for some years.

Speaker: Not even a statistic, in reply to
What a wonderful story! It speaks volumes of the way your friend brought up her daughter and of her daughter's strength and anger in support of her mother.

No mention so far of the backing music, which I found absolutely astounding - I wanted a separate audience response, especially to Leon Radojkovic on piano. This in addition to the plaudits above.

Can't see anyone speaking up for Sandringham here!
I go to Khyber Spice for cheap milk, great yoghurt, spices, sometimes vegetables and curry leaves - grape leaves and rice - samosas. People come from all over Auckland for their huge range of dates (during Ramadan), halva, and sheep and goat cheese in blocks in the cabinet. And hey, the folks speak and play the radio in Hindi and I love it!I've started going to the halal butcher next to Shubh in Sandringham Rd - which everybody loves for really good cheap takeaway curries sold canteen style with no waiting. The butcher seems really reasonably priced and the meat so far excellent. Goat stew, anyone?
And the village is easy walking distance and the shops open long hours which makes me love living nearby.
