Unsure if you've already seen this Danielle, but in response to your question of gender, I give you: http://www.salon.com/2012/12/17/why_is_the_shooter_always_male/

  • Hard News: Cultures and violence, in reply to Russell Brown,

Man I'm getting Edgelered by you now too? You PA folks are sticklers for facts.

    I approve.

  • Hard News: Cultures and violence,

Without having much knowledge, it seems awfully difficult to pin a reason down for the seemingly frequent recurrence of school shootings. Is it the access to guns? Probably not, because in Israel it's easier to get a gun but their rate of civilian shootings seems low (yeah yeah I know). Are they particularly violent in the States? Possibly. Is it racist tensions? Is it education? Who knows. It could be a combination of all.

Hell it could even be too MUCH freedom. F*ck I dunno. But the hand-wringing that goes on after every shooting is becoming exhausting. So many solutions talked about, nothing done.

re Spotify, it's the Banquo's ghost of spam emails. Every time someone I don't care about does something on that goddamn program, I get an email. Despite repeated attempts to unsubscribe.

  • Hard News: Party on, dudes,

I have to confess that a) I don’t remember this at all

I hear that more than I care to admit

and b) I’m quite tempted to go look now. But I won’t.

Best you don't, I was a bit of a dickhead. But I like to think I'm marginally less dickheadish now.

  • Hard News: Party on, dudes,

Without wishing to join the gush, I have a special place in my heart for PA. Though it says I've been a member since the beginning, I don't contribute a whole heap. In 2008, at the end of a brutal Democratic primary season I came on to a thread and made a (foolish) comment about Hillary Clinton finally bowing out (hint: it was less poetic than that). I got torn a new one by Emma, Danielle et al. And rightly so.

Since then I've made a conscious effort to understand shit before commenting on it. So chur for helping me grow up.

  • OnPoint: H4x0rs and You, in reply to john Drinnan,

Did John Drinnan miss the point? I thought I was reading a story about how a MSM reporter misrepresented an expert. At no stage John, did Keith attempt to make this about him?

  • OnPoint: MSD's Leaky Servers,

Or is it a white knight smear appearing?

That's my fear, that they will say "oh there's no evidence of a link to Keith" but we'll all think it anyway.

Let's not forget the last person who publicly took on Paula Bennett...

  • Hard News: Irony Deficient,

I think satire died after Chris Morris' Brass Eye. That was it. Finished. It had reached perfection. After that, the world became too absurd to properly satirise.

  • Cracker: What Would Charlotte Do?,

Twitter is an incredibly frustrating medium to try and pull it back

Yeah I think you're spot on there actually.

I've had a couple of "Ricky Gervais" types tweet back at me - and I think that's the exciting part about Twitter, a chance to engage with people who you would never otherwise engage with.

But then on the flipside, things get aired very publicly and can turn feral (the British swimmer episode from the Olympics springs to mind).
