If, by "carnage", you actually mean "ad views", then I agree with you.

Well put. And I must say that when the Edwards rant was linked to yesterday my first thought was, "look who's found yet another way of driving traffic through meaningless diatribe". The services of his media company must be worth every single penny.

Thank god I'm getting out of the city that day!

Wait: shouldn't the panel be called Meet Some Bloggers then?

Thats hilaarious.... Its like the ghosts of Archie Bunkerism and Alf Garnetists took to watching Campbell Live that night.

It should be pointed out that the feedback was on the website. I think it falls under angry lonely men with keyboards.

I'd rather they give the crackpots airtime so someone can then debunk them. Otherwise we end up with Sensing Murder being the number one rated show.

It seems a very faulty correlation to me. How about we don't air Sensing Murder?

  • Hard News: The First Draft, in reply to Rich Lock,

Why was Ken Ring even given airtime?

That seems to me to be the key issue. Kim Hill did a good job (not a great job; a good job) in her interview with 9/11 charlatan Richard Gage, but I still think that on balance she should have not had him on. It gave him a media presence that carries in itself an undue amount of credibility.

(Which may explain in part why the event at Te Papa the next day was the most highly attended in his worldwide tours - the institutional credibiilty of Te Papa being another possible reason. Or maybe New Zealanders are just more easily duped, but I don't think that's it.)

I see that Emma had tweeted that she would like to see a place where all of the most poignant and beautiful eqnz posts could be. I think that would be fantastic.

And I was thinking that the tweets ought to be collected, possibly in a book, although it's a terribly fraught thing.

But given the email I received on Friday, the slutty, slutty support would be appreciated.

    Ahhh... what?

This from Cheryl Bernstein this morning was just beautiful I thought. (Hers have also been some of the most eloquent and literate tweets.)

  • Hard News: What Now?, in reply to Ross Mason,

What the hell do you do for the totally wrecked families? Tents? Caravans? Hostels? I have got this crazy idea of kitset Lockwood style homes being produced using NZ trees, NZ sawmills, NZ workers. Afterall the govt is looking at importing temporary(?) housing.

Italy has had comparable earthquakes. After Friuli (1976: 989 victims and 45,000 people left homeless), people moved initially into trailers and then within months into prefab temporary villages. Whole towns were rebuilt inside of ten years.

The Irpinia earthquake was... a whole other story. But there were different issues there (read: mafia, extensive corruption).
