Thought: I would guess I've known three times as many female vegans as male.

Heh! Skews the ratio - 2 females & 2 males.

I'd add- if you're not being kind to animals in general - and I am not taking a poke at meateaters (I eat birds & fish)- you also wont be kind to our species.

I cant quite understand where that vegan is coming from...

(All the long-term vegans I know (4) are also pacifists and totally non-violent. And, yep, they dont consume or use anything of animal origin (including leather, silk or cochineal.) The very idea of advocating for the death penalty for anything would cause them grief.)

I guess as Hadyn notes, the boundaries are different when people think they won't have to deal with the consequences.

For a lot of drivers - especially males - their physical boundaries are actually the outside of their vehicles...

Ethics are not general - they tend to be profession-specific *and* problem/person-specific.
E.g: what is entirely ethical for a female gynaecologist of no religious committment(apropos abortion for a 45yrold female with 2 disabled children) could be unethical for a christian GP (of many churches/varieties) -reguardless of the health/benefit to the child-bearer.
(I deliberately say 'child-bearer' rather than 'mother.' Please note my immediate family includes both midwives & GPs.)
I know about ethics within the Law profession: these - frequently over the past couple of decades- have been subsumed into echelons of company/client/self interests.

I have a card that says I am ordained in *spiritual* humanism, given to me as joke.
I am not at all sure what it actually means - aside from being a joke-

He’s always seemed incredibly patient and calm to me, in the face of often bitter and hateful attacks by religious bigots.

I agree. And reasoned, with interesting examples backing his contentions where appropriate. And happily acknowledging the beauty & power of the faith he was born into...whilst not following it.

Just accept that you are just a temporary collection of atoms gathered in one place in the form of you. Relax. Enjoy it. You are dead a long time.

    I am, and I do, I do-
