The interweb is there for you, Che...

I wanna get down on my knees and start pleasing Jesus! I wanna feel his salvation all over my face!

This transcript has the songs helpfully bolded. But you might miss the conversation with the record exec:

We just have one question, though. We were looking over some of your lyrics, uh... "I want to walk hand-in-hand with Jesus on a private beach for two./I want him to nibble on my ear and say 'I'm here for you.'" Ih it seams you really love Christ.

For what it's worth, there are pics from Scoop readers here, here and here. I believe there are more to go up.

Myself, I got a brief glimpse of Tuesday night from Lower Hutt before the cloud came over, but the great one way last Friday from my backyard.

Unfortunately, by the time I realised the batteries on my camera actually were charged the damn thing was dropping out of view. I clambered onto the garage and the head was behind a tree.

I got a couple of decent shots of the tail.

Holding out for an obviously clear night so I have the motivation to rush off to somewhere with less light. Surely there's still time...

  • Hard News: Appeasing Osama,

From my vague sense of Islamic regional and theological history, it has been questioned. It's just that the situation seems to have regressed.

That flash movie with the empires bouncing back and forth over the Mid East might suggest one factor.

And the more recent upsurge in holier than thou religious conservatism that harks back to a golden age of moral goodness that probably never happened and... sounds oddly familiar.

That may not help with respect to how we deal with the situation now, expect perhaps that Islam is clearly not one huge blob, and the tattered remains of good sense are surely still lying around somewhere I we could only stop causing problems and start helping.

As for shitting on [radical] Christians, that might be partly because it's our problem. It's always a bit less of a shock when foreigners behave badly.

I'd also say that - especially the way things stand - people in our society complaining about our society is likely to be more not counterproductive than our society complaining abouth their society.

  • Hard News: Appeasing Osama,

In piecing through Al Qaeda's motives I find it interesting to note [pointed out in Grag Palast's Armed Madhouse] that among the people urging Iraqis not to destroy their oil wells were Osama Bin Laden.

The connection between that and the Twin Towers is extremely tenuous, but I thought I'd throw that in there.

  • Hard News: Inauspicious,

If people are interested Greg Palast's book Armed Madhouse traces some of the organisational chaos before and at the beginning of the occupation to (as I recall) power struggles between the neocons and oil interests in the White House.

Also suggests reasons it might be in the latter's interests to have ongoing chaos in Iraq.

I realise that if you're disinclined to agree Palast may seem a bit tinfoiley, but there is generally at least some evidence.
