    my La Marzocco Linea

    Do you really have one?

Two, actually. One has it's own dedicated room in my palatial Devonport mansion. Three butlers and two cooks later, I'm managing to get an at least tolerably drinkable cup of coffee out of that one (can't get the staff these days).

It's the one I've had plumbed in to the Lamborghini I'm having trouble with. My chauffeur has expressed his bafflement (and to be fair, it's not really within his purview), so I thought I'd ask you chaps at PAS, being the class-traitor connoisseurs of fine coffee that you are infamously known for.

you know my preference would be to bust out a witty, forthright and yet measured post about some important thing...

.....so I'm trying to get the flow rate and temperature settings correctly calibrated on my La Marzocco Linea. At the moment I'm cycling at 1.75 bar, but I'm finding that the cycling time is significantly longer than if I had it set to a 1.3 to 1.5BAR setting.

The flow-on effect is that my home-made falafel doesn't taste as good. Does anyone have any advice?

  • Hard News: Science: it's complicated, in reply to giovanni tiso,

Is this because they absolutely taste pleasant, or because we live in a society that elevates conspicuous consumption?

While there may be an element of that in it, I'm reasonably confident that you could ask any backyard cultivator which has more taste: homegrown or supermarket, and they'd point to the homegrown. Although obviously backyard cultivators are all just doing it before it becomes fashionable.

It's kg yield that is maximised to maximise profit. It isn't the taste.

  • Hard News: How much speech does it take?, in reply to Steve Barnes,

“decent people who are boiling with rage at being disenfranchised by an entire political class which seems determined to destroy their civilisation.”

So they seek to destroy it themselves

Quite. There's plenty to get angry about, and a lot of it relates to disenfranchisement. But the anger is being directed at the powerless, rather than the powerful. Who have benefitted enormously over the last few decades, and who continue to benefit very nicely indeed from deregulation, globalisation and low corporate taxes.

Taxi Driver ... whooped at the Famous Bits

laugh...merrily along with Travis Bickle's descent into madness. Yes, he's such an endearing character. The fuck is wrong with you people?

Oh, I dunno. 'Rocky Horror' dress-up and audience participation is getting a bit stale. We could update it to 'Taxi Driver'. Throw condoms and sick bags at the screen when he's cleaning his taxi, squirt waterpistols at each other during the climactic shootout. That sort of thing.

  • Hard News: How much speech does it take?, in reply to Che Tibby,

yeah i'm not sure if anyone has actually explained the birds and bees to you yet rich.
    hot tip: let them. sayin'

O Swiftfeather, my brother. You hung your drum too....prematurely.

It is a hard way, the way of being a man. Sooner or later we all want a thing that is bad. To walk on all fours. To suck up drink from a stream. To jabber, instead of saying the words. To go snuffling at the earth, and to claw on the bark of trees. To eat flesh, or fish. To make love to more than one, every which way. These are all bad things. These are not the things that men do. But we are men, are we not? We are men because the Father has made us men!

His is the hand that makes! His is the hand that hurts! His is the hand that heals! His is the House of Pain! He who breaks the law shall go back to the House of Pain!

Emma Jones at the corrective clinic.

I had a back/neck injury back in February, which she's been dealing with.

Part of the treatment has been me swallowing my pride and actually listening when she teaches me how to do basic stuff, like sitting, standing, squatting movements (to pick stuff up), and posture related stretching/strengthening exercises.

    A+++ would definitely trade again.

  • Hard News: Vanilla Buffalo Yoghurt, in reply to Russell Brown,

I find I can't do diclofenac for long without tummy troubles.

    That's the downside.

My assumption was that you'd only be taking it for a day or two until the back settled down. A couple of days doesn't usually cause upsets, but your milage may vary.

  • Hard News: Vanilla Buffalo Yoghurt,

I was this close to snarling at you, so long did your well-meaning interrogation about my attempt to buy a sodding box of Neurofen Plus continue. Back off, dude.)

Switch up to diclofenac. Get a repeat presecription from your doctor and keep the bottle handy.

Also sold over the counter as voltaren (although you'll get quizzed when buying it).

Much more effective than Neurofen for muscle/joint/back problems.

Also, I can recommend a really good sports physio for your back, if you want/need one. Now I'm pushing 40, I've actually started lisening to medical professionals. It's amazing how much sense they talk. Why didn't someone tell me this before?
