OnPoint: Election 2011: GO!, in reply to
So, what’s a Southland swede? Is it just turnips grown in Southland?
Ah! The tubes tell me that it's a rutabaga! (Another entry for my future 'things I thought were different in America but are actually the same' recipe translation cookbook.)
Anyway, my family swears by the superior flavour of swede grown in Southland. Something to do with the frost? (Obviously, I don't know anything about vegetable growth.)

Bart, listen without prejudice. (You see what I did there?)
Since I went on a Wham! YouTube binge just now, I want to note that ‘Freedom’ is an utterly fantastic Motown-esque pop song.
There are so many hooks in it that it’s actually nuts. And then at the end, what the hell with the ‘Penny Lane’ horn fadeout? Badass!
(George Michael DOES need to stop driving. Forever. I’ll give you that.)

This thread now makes me want mashed Southland swede with butter and pepper. So I suppose it was good for something.

Excellent! Simon, I shall wave these facts triumphantly in my (Madonna-fan, Wham!-scorning) husband's face when he gets home this evening.

I don’t think they’re unusual for their generation
I'm, like, related to people too, so I get that. I'd just love it if politicians were a little less focussed on those people's prejudices.

The awesomeness of Wham! may, in fact, be the only issue in the world I am willing to say 'men think like this, women think like that' about.

Srsly. Also, marriage equality is a fucking no-brainer. I can't imagine pondering over that issue for longer than, oooh, 30 seconds.
(But I am an unrealistic softie pinko, so there's that.)

you just secretly like Madonna
She really does have a plethora of great singles.
(Of course, I also think this about Wham!, and I get so much 'bish, please' for it.)

Yeah, I often find the 'you're a bad feminist because...' slut-shamers are a particularly small (but vocal) minority in these discussions.

The argument was poorly made, but as they often say in the feminist blogosphere: "it's not about you".
