That was a wonderful concert at Frank Kitts Park! The Phoenix Foundation are a Wellington treasure! And they're just one part of the picture - Age Pryor, Hollie Smith, Fat Freddy's Drop, Flight of the Conchords and others complete the set. Clearly there's a generation of creativity that has emerged here that is original and remarkable. Rock on. I detest 'us vs them' contests and Auckland has its advantages but right now it feels great to be a Wellingtonian with talent like this around.

yes, what's the strategy at The Listener? Is it the idea that people will buy more copies because they'll be unsure if they have the latest issue. You could take this philosophy to absurdity by simply having a brown paper cover that says Magazine, not unlike the scenes of generic food in the supermarket in the film Repo Man.
On another note - brilliant news over the Tasman! Indigenous Australians finally get their historic moment - an apology from the government in Canberra with support from all political parties. I wonder how it makes John Howard feel now?

Right on, Mikaere! We can't keep on eating tuna. It is a dangerously unsustainable fishery resource. I totally agree. The fact that the Japanese eat a lot of it is irrelevant. Just because China keeps on building coal fired plants doesn't mean we should also do so.

That's a great stoush going on on Expat Exposed. It's funny how some New Zealanders are in complete denial that racism exists here and that Christchurch is a shop window for it.

The second photo (labourer at wind farm 2) is a clever photo because of the frame of the window behind the subject. He's an interesting looking subject too. I can't wait to read about Pakistan and see the images.

As we know, and even Blind Harry can see, decades of racist, and paternalistic government policies towards Aboriginal Australians means that an apology is long overdue.
Speaking of paternalistic, have a listen to Geoff Robinson's condescension in his interview on the subject in today's programme of Morning Report.

Craig, more effective policies and inclusive decision making to improve the economic and social well being of Aboriginal Australians is obviously part of the equation but it is clear that a symbolic apology is a big deal. You only have to look at the reaction among Aboriginal leaders and commentators that is being reported in the Australian news media.
Anyone who has lived in Australia will be conscious of the Howard government's reluctance to make such a gesture which will make the event when it happens all the more powerful.
And how cynical was it that during campaigning that Howard signalled he would be prepared to make some kind of gesture to Aboriginal Australians in the spirit of reconciliation - if he were re-elected.
There's a lot of power in symbolism. Just ask the Chinese how they feel about war crimes committed by the Japanese during the Second World War.
