I second Moz on the Greenspeed. We had a tandem recumbent. On one hill we regularly went down we had to brake at 80 km/hr so as not to break the speed limit. Magura disk brakes were awesome.

It’s still not a good question because it begs the question about which action. Yes yes you could infer the latest action, but it’s not a good question. He wasn't “forced” either, he decided.

I've been reading some of Peter Aranyi's comments on attack blogger Cameron Slater and have to ask, why give oxygen to this sad disfunctional liar? How does it further the debate?

Congrats to the Ms TV3 Newsreader for her Mandarin pronunciation. Patrick really needs some lessons.

I have to disagree with you about the conservatives thinking one step further and realising they would create a society that's ultimately damaging to their own interests. I disagree because I think that it a fundamental misunderstanding of the conservative mind, as opposed to the liberal mind. The extremist conservatives who are running the country truly believe that some people are better off dead. They think it will improve the gene pool. I have had discussions for example on drug policy with conservatives who are very very well aware that their policies lead to more deaths. They are happy for this to happen for the reasons I've given. The conservative mind is also driven by fear. The problem in the small world of NZ politics is that liberals are swamped by extremist conservatives on their end of the spectrum. -
Thanks Damian
I think you're too kind about the 'behaviour' of Duncan Garner. His ranting reading of a letter denouncing trotskyist greens and the same for an attack on Metiria were firmly in the mold of the sadly sick Cameron Slater. That's the demographic he's appealing to and that's his form of 'journalism'. -

They don't necessarily disagree. It just presents another option for the industrial military complex to use/sell their stuff.

Hard News: Media3 will be away for a while, in reply to
Try getting hold of a radio licence in auckland and let me know how you go. Also no tradition of Community Radio unlike in Oz, not that I'd want to be like them.
BTW can you set this website to alert you via email when someone comments on a thread?

Story ideas:
1. compare Radio NZ National with Oz ABC Radio National which has a much better range of programs
2. Monopoly of Chinese language radio in Auckland by China Gov and our Gov expressly saying it doesn't want to interfere (Lateline in Oz was considering a story about this in Oz and NZ - not sure if it made it to press)
3. Gradual move in society and media to genetic explanations of behaviour - a move I'm happy with, though not in a simplistic 1:1 relation.
4. probably tangential to M3, but: trademe monopoly and how they undermine their own feedback system (integral to their model)
