  • Hard News: Dirty Politics,

David Fisher shows that the PM's numerous assertions that the Snowden documents were somehow "fabricated" is just one big untruth.

The Herald sought any information held by the Prime Minister which informed him or his office over the alleged "fabrication".

The Prime Minister's chief of staff Wayne Eagleson said "no information has been identified". He said the PM's office had to refuse the request because the "information requested does not exist or cannot be found".

Asked for the basis of the claim, a spokeswoman for the Prime Minister said: "Given these documents were stolen and these people have a track record of misrepresenting, misinterpreting and misunderstanding information, as shown in the Moment of Truth, we can't discount that some of what is being put forward may be fabricated."

Is it just me or did the PM's spokeswoman's nose just grow longer?

The Internet Society of Australia suggests that geoblocking content should be banned under international trade treaties.

We believe that in negotiations over the Transpacific Partnership agreement Australia should insist on an end to geoblocking and a requirement, as part of the new international trading arrangements being introduced, that content supplied over the Internet must be released at the same time and at comparable prices across all TPP participating countries.

  • Hard News: Dirty Politics,

Alastair Thompson has picked up this story on Scoop.

The story is a pot-boiling journalistic tale of a trip inside Dark Politics by a brave (some might say foolhardy) young hacker / journalist, a class of new entrants to the media scene who are having a big impact - and some of whom like Chelsea Manning & Barrett Brown who have found themselves martyred for their temerity.

  • Envirologue: Too Big to Fail – Why…,

There's a good quote from Dale Vince, chairman of UK green energy company Ecotricity in today's Guardian.

“There will come a time when people will laugh at the idea that instead of producing our own energy from free wind and sunshine, we used to pay someone else to do it; when they will be shocked that we used to send billions of pounds overseas every year to foreign governments just for the privilege of burning their natural resources and polluting our planet; when people will watch their carbon footprint like we watch our weight.”

    Amen.

  • Hard News: Dirty Politics,

The Ben Rachinger story gets weirder.

Statement on the matter of Mr Cameron Slater and payment for hacking for political purposes.

I, Ben Rachinger, was approached to hack “The Standard”, a Labour party affiliated blogsite, by Cameron Slater on behalf of his unnamed funder in February 2015. These parties offered me $5,000 to gain access to “The Standard” blogsite and to get the ‘Authors List’. I was also to leave a backdoor in the server so the parties could get access anytime they wished. The reasons for the ‘Authors List’ having such importance for the funder, as demonstrated in the communications prior to the actual discussion of money being exchanged for hacking, was to use the ‘Authors List’ in Parliament when the ‘House’ sat again first in 2015 to embarrass the Opposition and/or get resignations.

Extra bonuses above the $5,000 were offered for resignations and timing. It was not clear exactly what the monetary sum being offered for that was but there was mention of an additional $5,000.

Cameron Slater paid $1,000 as a down payment for the hacking from his company ‘Social Media Consulting’ directly into my bank account with the references being “Dark Lord”.

The post contains screen grabs of transfers totalling $14,500 from Slater to Rachinger's account.

The NZ Police asked me to come into the Manakau Police Station and make a recorded statement about the alleged conspiracy to hack ‘The Standard’. I consented to doing this interview on my own and without a lawyer present.

This interview took place over 2 hours with a few 5 minute breaks. I was asked repeatedly if I had done the hack, about my computing/network security skills and what had lead me to be in contact with Mr Slater.

I was sure to tell the Police that Slater had, in messages, talked about owning multiple firearms, meeting organized crime gang members regularly and had powerful backers/funders.

The decision to go to the Police and make a statement was prompted by my awareness I was in ‘Deep’ with very dangerous and angry people.

The Police took my devices, with my consent, for cloning. My devices, Smartphone/Tablet/Laptop were sent to the Dunedin Electronic Crime Laboratory for cloning. This process took a month. I then had my devices returned to me by the Detectives and asked additional questions about the evidence.

I have heard from the Police subsequently and it is my understanding the Police are very keen to interview Mr Slater about the evidence I have provided them.

I have been receiving death threats and have had family members called and have had them threatened.

    WTF?

I just listened to Guyen Espinar interviewing the PM on the ponytail affair -- talk about dancing on the head of a pin.

Key said that he had taken legal advice on McCready's Male assaults Female case, but "wasn't 100% sure" whether that was in a private or official capacity. There's that damn hat thing again. Maybe he should just come clean and admit he wears his jester's hat.

When asked if he's embarrassed New Zealand given the derogatory headlines he'd achieved around the world, Key said, and I kid you not...

"We live in a global world..."

    Well, doh!

Espiner dug further. "Do you do this to other women?"
    PM: "I don't think so."
    GE: "You don't think so?"

Espiner asked if the ponytail pulling was sexist. Key said "No."
GE: "Would you have done it to a man as well?"
    PM: "Yeah, I could have."

Wow! Send your photographs of our PM pulling waiters' hair to...
