He does seem to have some sort of ponytail fetish as the CL clip shows. The test is, would Key do the same thing to a waiter with a ponytail? This is misogynistic behaviour of the worst kind.

Matthew Hooton on Nine to Noon...
He took pains to insist that if Nicky Hager is a journalist, then he (Hooton) is the captain of the All Blacks - he really does think like John Key, poor deluded soul.Not long ago, when Hooten was desperately trying to distance himself from Dirty Politics, he managed to portray an illusion of reason. He appeared for a while to be positioning himself as "a sensible voice of the right" -- where there's currently a gaping gap in the NZ market.
Then he comes out with this sort of nonsense and blows his credibility right out of the water. 2/10.

That's probably not too far from the truth Andrew.
A couple of days ago I mentioned Key's propensity to appear in every second bloody news item. Toby Manhire has noticed the same phenomenon.
If TV3's polarising breakfast host is Paul Henry Everywhere, the PM is John Key Everything. He may only do soundbites - as in refusing to discuss the details of the Dirty Politics material - but almost never a "no comment".
On Tuesday, he was asked by Newstalk ZB Canterbury's Chris Lynch whether the demise of TV3's Campbell Live programme would be bad for democracy, given it would mean "fewer programmes on commercial television holding the Government to account".
Another PM in another country might have said they weren't about to pronounce on what should be on television. Not our guy. "No," he began. "I mean, you know, firstly, its role in life isn't to hold the Government to account. It's, you know, to entertain its viewers and to, you know, basically to follow news stories, but, you know, a great many of those don't actually involve the Government."
Some thought this was an outrageous thing to say. I just thought it was bloody strange. On he went, making the obligatory mention of the role of social media, some scheduling suggestions ("people want lighter entertainment at that time of night"), and so on. All in a day's work for this many-hatted prime minister. The work-rate of the ABs' front-row, 50 Shades of Grey, potato harvesting in Galway: he has an opinion on everything. He's probably using a pseudonym to post an online comment beneath this article at this very moment.

You'd have to wonder if TV3's consultation process re CL has a predetermined outcome for a while. TV3 signs an annual agreement with Mazda, Campbell Live's main sponsor (since 2008). This year MediaWorks only extended the deal for three months -- and that deal expires at the end of May.
Bill Ralston, a former TVNZ head of current affairs, said the short-term deal was highly unusual and only made sense if a decision about the future of the show had already been made.
"A three-month deal makes no sense, unless they were - at the point at which they negotiated that three-month deal - considering getting rid of Campbell Live."
A MediaWorks spokeswoman rejected suggestions the show was being railroaded into an early end. "It would be completely incorrect to suggest the outcome of this review is predetermined."
Mr Ralston said longer-term sponsorships made more financial sense for broadcasters.
"If you're a cash-strapped TV channel like they are, you'd want that cash booked in for at least a year."
At least the CL team are maintaining a sense of humour.
Last night, in an open dig at network bosses who have suggested replacing the show with a soap opera, Campbell Live opened to the theme tune Let Me Entertain You.
