Does the average New Zealander blame Kenya for not reaching the semis last time around? I'd have thought we blamed consecutive collapses against SA and India for that.
Having said that, what a blessed run Kenya had. In a topsy-turvy group they had NZ defaulting (abdicating?) a home win against can't give a toss Lankans, and then other results going their way in every game meaning they went through carrying maximum points.
And what do you know??? On the other side of the draw was even-worse Zimbabwe who had also made it through die to terrorism / political issues.
So they beat them, and they're into the final 4 (as 3rd qualifier no less)

Reece; I've joined you fantasy league as ... Leg Break.
Was very tempted to pick the roly-poly from Bermuda but just couldn't do it..

Great stuff; looking forward to it. I remember Bilcliff starting first class cricket aged 18 for Otago in the early 90s. Ken Rutherford, Otago captain at the time, said he was a test player of the future, which was the kiss of death. You’d think Ruds, of all people, should’ve known better.
For all other cricket tragics out there, at www.sportsfreak.co.nz there’s a series of articles at the moment previewing the tournament group by group, in a non-Cricinfo kind of way.

J Patel is the first player of Asian extraction to play for NZ who was born here.

RB,
Don’t get me wrong I think it’s great that Taylor’s made it, as is the fact that this current NZ team has a far more cosmopolitan and more reflective of NZ society look to it these days which is a great thing.
Which gets me thinking, why is Jeetan Patel (also born in NZ) not referred to as Indian, where (unlike Taylor) he is ethnically a full-blooded Indian?
It just doesn’t add up to me (although I do take Emma Hart’s point that the media does seem to like finding an easy tag and sticking to it)
-
Can’t agree Paul.
You never hear Scott Styris being referred to as the Australian Styris, and he was born there! And I’m pretty sure I’ve never heard Monty Paneasar being referred to as “The Indian”.
You can pick up on the multi-cultural angle when you watch them play.

In retrospect, Bond’s opening spell was the difference between the 2 sides.
Can anyone possibly explain why the main-stream media keep on referring to Ross Taylor as a Samoan??

In all my years of wtching professional sport, I am sure I have nver seen a more dispirited performance than England on Tuesday night.
What a shambles.

Yes they do; that's why I think they were better suited to bowling in the Power Plays (possibly buying a wicket in the process) than the medium pacers on a flat deck.

Lol; well spotted Reece.
I’ll rephrase. Fleming’s handling of the bowlers has been as good as ever; except for the fact he bends to the wishes of the vice-captain too much.
