I was going to post this up tomorrow when my pay cycle aligns and I make my contribution, but since you mentioned it...

Hard News: The witless on the pitiless, in reply to
Bin Laden was simply gunned down in cold blood.
To me, the phrase 'cold blood' suggests the following: that there is clearly no immediate threat to the troops on the ground, the immediate action is over, and the adrenaline has, to an extent, subsided. And then they start shooting prisoners or unarmed individuals.
That's not entirely correct - the troops on the ground were, effectively, deep in 'enemy territory', and right in the middle of a shooting operation.
I certainly think there are hard, legitimate questions to be asked and answered about the orders that those troops were given (i.e. was the emphasis on 'kill', rather than 'capture'), and whether it was feasible to have captured him under the circumstances that those highly-trained, highly-disciplined troops found themselves in.
But 'cold blood' does not seem to me to be appropriate.

Wow, thanks. I can use them for both concerts and while hooning around on my 2-stroke scooter.
Yep, I use them at gigs and on my motorbike. I find they work well for both.

Is that where we get to sniff the bottle but the distiller asserts ownership of its contents?
Over the years, I've certainly been on the receiving end of some beers that aren't so much drunk as borrowed for a while before being passed back for the next customer. I guess the horse would have to be really ill to be producing spirits of the same provenance...

I take earplugs to any show I think is going to be loud, and certainly to anything at the Powerstation. There have been gigs I simply couldn't have enjoyed without them -- like, for example, Shayne Carter's retrospective set at the Stroke launch. That was loud.
I would advise not using the cheapo foam rubber ones though. For $20-odd you can get better ones that you can adjust by pulling in and out. Stuff sounds a lot better.
I'd be interested in anyone else's recommendations.Alpine earplugs are the most comfortable and effective ones I've found. And they're not expensive.

Having started down this path, perhaps Hone could really push the envelope. Muse on how Pol Pot was a misunderstood freedom fighter, and how Ghengis Khan may have been a bit bloodthirsty, but by golly he knew how to defend the rights of indigenous peoples in the face of Chinese expansionist aggression.
Then really alienate all his supporters by commenting on how his buddies Michael Lhaws and Paul Henry were just exercising their right to free speech. Or is that too much, even for him?
