Hard News: My Food Bag: is it any good?, in reply to
If that’s pay, what about journalists who get free tech toys worth much more and write and tweet about them?
I was being a picky bugger I admit.
I was once given a media player to review, (back in '99) a 32meg device that would store two or three songs on the space that was left after the OS. It was a cheap plasticky looking thing with confusing buttons that seemed to have a mind of their own and the sound was awful.
I wrote the review, it was not, I must add, full of praise. I returned the device as I was asked to, it was not a gift.
To my surprise a few days later I received an invoice for $325 stating that the product was not returned with packaging intact and undamaged and that there was a cigarette burn on the packaging.
It took me a while before I accepted such a commission again. Needless to say that invoice remains unpaid.
Did you return the food after use?.

.5° C rise over decades not noticed in one summer
Video at 11.00 -
New Zealand Herald media columnist John Drinnan’s speculation that people tweeting about it were being paid to do so.
Let’s get this out of the way first: they weren’t. That isn’t how this kind of thing works.
And then;
To launch the service, Pead PR devised a pretty standard modern consumer PR campaign: offer one week’s order to a bunch of known over-sharers with social media audiences
So they were "paid" $140-$179 to Blog, Tweet or, dare I say it?, Facepalm it.
And.. former Telecom CEO Theresa Gattung?
Enough to put me off the service if not food for good. -

(It seems only fair to note that TVNZ news and current affairs has not exactly been a heathy editorial operation itself in recent years. It could be argued that it needed shaking up by some hand.)
So. are you suggesting Matt Heath be CEO of TVNZ?. I could think of much worse people, Kevin Kenrick for example.

I too have notice considerable Global cooling occurring locally. I have been taking temperature readings almost daily every year between March and September (I find it too warm to go outdoors for the rest of the year as I only wear winter clothes and find bare skin offensive).
My conclusions are undoubted amongst my peers in the AGW Deniers Club.
Every year I have found that temperatures drop during my periods of measurement.
Just last year I noticed a drop of almost 10 degrees in the measurement period, this is consistent with measurements I have taken for the last ten years.
This is incontrovertible evidence that the Global temperature has dropped 100 degrees in accumulative terms in that time.
I should sue Al Gore for the billions he has stolen from my "Hard Earned Money"

Hard News: Friday Music: Go Home DJ, in reply to
A quick and dirty way to get a DJ setup in Widows 7 is to use stream routing. All you have to do is use two different media players and set the output of one to “rear audio out” in the devices section and the other one to “front Headphone out”. This will give you two separate outputs. A simple DIY cross-fader will do the rest.
Here is a quick and dirty picture
And Here is the tech stuff with link to microsoft.Note, you could also use thid crossfader between 2 iPods or whatever media players you happen to have kicking around.

the key problem with effective DJing on a ’droid I ran into, which is that there aren’t 4 channels for the sounds, so you can’t do audio cueing on a headset.
While I am here... ;-)
I was wondering whether you could use the midi channel with an "on the fly" conversion app to give you effectively, 4 channels. The other alternative could be splitting the 5.1 output but that sounds complex.
