Key is technically Jewish (like my kids)as Jewishness is passed down matrilinearly – that makes him NZ’s third Jewish PM (which I think is kind of neat and wonderfully multicultural)

Jon Stewart, for once, seems lost for words about it all, before surmising “it would be really nice if the ramblings of crazy people didn’t actually represent how we talk to one another on TV.”
Of course what he was really saying was: "it would be really nice if how we talk to one another on TV didn’t actually represent the ramblings of crazy people .”

A couple of comments on slashdot::
Sarah Palin just took down her USA Map with targets drawn over democratic leaders, one of them was for Gabrielle Giffords.
Well, of course she did, she has to update it...

I get paid in US $$ - I have a US$ account at the National Bank - Swift transfers occur overnight to there (I understand it's really 'in' NY as much as an electronic ledger full of bits can be anywhere) - actual currency changes occur when I move that money to my chequing account, takes 10 minutes. There are fees and stuff, exchange rates are probably not the best
Past experience has told me that waiting for opportune exchange rates is a largely waste of time requiring a magical ability to sense the future

Xmas in Dunedin, 2 days sleeping off the food then we went and spent a few days up at Hawea in the sun
Came back on the 1st and my eldest has moved out (his lease started on the 1st and he couldn't wait), they grow up so fast! He came back the next day for a shower ....

the (seems like) hour long (really maybe 5 minutes?) advertorial for their new beer playing in cinemas at the moment left the audience stunned wondering if that might have been the main feature – possibly the longest ad I’ve seen – there’s only so many farmers self consciously outstanding in their fields that one can take
Our German visitor was quite mystified

could be that today's odd employees are worth many more future normal ones

Timezones are handleable - lots of us work off shore but live in NZ (and yes we do want fat pipes to our homes) - for the US one simply gets up early or comes to an agreement with your client/customer/boss nominate some 'core hours' that anyone can meet
I know people who simply work night shift in London - and others who work in programming teams where no two people live in the same timezone
And then there's that whole other class of 20 something techno-nomads who have simply gone on the road and are sitting on a beach in Thailand right now, and will be in the Alps next month - providing places they can land for a month or two in NZ (with fat pipes) is a way to attract those dollars into our economy

I've been in the computer biz for 3 decades now 2 of them living in the SF Bay Area (aka Silicon Valley) - while I've not worked on games I've known a lot of people who do - the game biz is a terribly fickle one - you can spend millions and flop and thousands and make a mint - it's terribly hit or miss - and gaming companies also are known for treating their employees abysmally (at least compared to the silicon valley startup world I work(ed) in).
I don't think anyone should base their country's economic future on gaming - think of it more as economic gravy - if we get a few hits great! but don't bet the farm

I heard that, what a ....
