    w.t.f. is marshall on?

he's from a country where people worship the ground an all black walks on, and he's having a little tissy about not getting enough recognition?

what the hell does he want, a life-time supply of glory?

oh, wait... he already had that...

  • Hard News: Fabrication and humanity,

But if I was looking for a venue to host a major international meeting - and incidentally show off Australia to the world as a vibrant and energetic world-class nation - I've got to admit Canberra would be well down the list.

true. and besides, howard has effectively made sydney the capital anyhow.

apparently they spend many, many thousands annually flying officials to kirribilli or thereabouts, so that howard doesn't have to spend time in canberra.

  • Hard News: Fabrication and humanity,

one of my greatest memories of melbourne was sitting in a restaurant providing the tune to po karekare ana while three east timorese sang a timorese version of the tune.

these guys came over as refugees, got an education to post-grad, and were planning on heading back there once things settled down.

meanwhile they brightened up the experiences of ordinary kiwis like myself. unforgettable.

  • Hard News: Fabrication and humanity,

that wasn't an emotive or personal attack, just pointing out that that you can't claim absolute priority for people who "play by the rules".

One can feel a lot of sympathy for Panah but his dishonsty has to be compared with all those others who are just as, or even more, desperate who play by the rules.

isn't that the same meme floated about the people on the tampa?

the ones who couldn't get access to the "queues" because their country was, you know, fcked?

i.e. "we'd love to help afghanis, but we've received no applications for refugee status through official channels"

    their historical shiftfights

in an age of history and cultural wars, that term might well have some great relevance.

  • Stories: Endings,

It was more the "remedial reading lessons" I was worried about.

apparently most news media is written for a reading age of 12. what struck me about harry potter was that it was written in a similarly simple style.

i thought at the time that rowling had written the books to pitch the story at that demographic.

but the remedial reading quip was basically just me being a prick to try get conversation started.

    :)

  • Hard News: Not Okay,

Kiwibloggers appear to be rushing to claim him as one of their own, suggesting to me that he's finally found his constituency.

has there been some kind of shady back-room deal?

    bolger for moore, i mean.
