Perhaps i missed something, but it seemed blindingly obvious to me that the numbers for a land tax just weren't there -- and never would be.
They have two support parties. I can think of one who would agree, under the right circumstances.
Actually, that raises a very interesting question: how on earth are the Maori Party going to give a 15% GST to their constituents? This Government has served them rat soup.

If you are are a Tory government who doesn't want the big realignment to happen on your watch
Realignment. Such an unassuming word.

Don't forget the Ric Barker post on red alert - http://blog.labour.org.nz/index.php/2010/02/02/tread-carefully-mr-key/ . Labour arguing for landowners not paying tax?
I won't forget it.

A prediction: nothing serious will be done.

Either we need to change our flag... or Australians are stupid. Let the debate begin.
If these people get their way, there will be no confusion between the two flags.
The current Australian flag is BORING and UNORIGINAL.
...
Everyone is always saying how super laid back Australians are, and what's more laid back than not caring enough about your flag that you change it to a giant dick? The campaign to Change the Australian Flag to Giant Dick.
Personally, I think the NZ flag debate is going nowhere because everything we're ever presented with is such dire rubbish.

And look, the National Government is cutting support for teaching deaf children.
This makes me so upset. Few things are more important than the right to education, and the right to language and speech. And those rights are being denied, without a thought or care.

I do actually watch a lot of TV on DVD - Lost, Sopranos, Mad Men etc. I probably watch TV shows more than I watch movies. And I watched a lot of tv in the UK and the US, where the ad breaks are only a couple times an hour - but in New Zealand it seems like the breakdown is about 40% ads to 60% programming, which doesn't really work for me.
It's always frustrating to watch something, knowing that they've cut a good number of minutes out in order to slot in more advertising, and that if you were watching the same program elsewhere in the world you'd see the entire thing.

John Campbell is the hardest working host I have worked with and has proven he is the best interviewer the country.
Oh yes, you've dredged that up from my memory. Insightful interviews on important subjects...
