Simon Said:
"Yes but that was long ago brushed under the carpet and Libby was not convicted of that"
Good lord... some people really cannot see the wood for the trees... youalmost appear to be quoting George Bush on that talking point. Lets have the full BS explanation in full.

"This case has generated significant commentary and debate. Critics of the investigation have argued that a special counsel should not have been appointed, nor should the investigation have been pursued after the Justice Department learned who leaked Ms. Plame's name to columnist Robert Novak. Furthermore, the critics point out that neither Mr. Libby nor anyone else has been charged with violating the Intelligence Identities Protection Act or the Espionage Act, which were the original subjects of the investigation. Finally, critics say the punishment does not fit the crime: Mr. Libby was a first-time offender with years of exceptional public service and was handed a harsh sentence based in part on allegations never presented to the jury.Others point out that a jury of citizens weighed all the evidence and listened to all the testimony and found Mr. Libby guilty of perjury and obstructing justice. They argue, correctly, that our entire system of justice relies on people telling the truth. And if a person does not tell the truth, particularly if he serves in government and holds the public trust, he must be held accountable. They say that had Mr. Libby only told the truth, he would have never been indicted in the first place.
...
Both critics and defenders of this investigation have made important points. I have made my own evaluation. In preparing for the decision I am announcing today, I have carefully weighed these arguments and the circumstances surrounding this case.
Mr. Libby was sentenced to thirty months of prison, two years of probation, and a $250,000 fine. In making the sentencing decision, the district court rejected the advice of the probation office, which recommended a lesser sentence and the consideration of factors that could have led to a sentence of home confinement or probation.
I respect the jury's verdict. But I have concluded that the prison sentence given to Mr. Libby is excessive. Therefore, I am commuting the portion of Mr. Libby's sentence that required him to spend thirty months in prison. "

"A blogger I read last week had a great line that I recall now in paraphrase: The Decider decided to let Cheney make all the decisions. We knew this, we could see it, and thanks to some astonishing (albeit far overdue) reporting by the Washington Post, we have details and data to the dot.
Forget impeaching Bush. He almost certainly hasn't been making most of the heavy decisions on policy, which means he probably hasn't actually committed any crimes. Sins of omission and collaboration? Accessory to murder, fraud and grand larceny? Conspiracy to commit same? Sure, yes, clearly, but I don't have much interest in trying to convict a rubber stamp."

William Pitt says enough already impeach Cheney. & Bush I say *
This is completely intolerable. Does anyone remember Bush saying he would hold an investigation into who leaked Plame's name and then take action? Is a clip of this going to be shown on the news tonight as lead? It bloody well should.
I find the second response in this thread simply astonishing. How can anyone continue to cry Clinton in the face of this abomination!
As William Pitt says.....

Excellent.
You have an email from me that I would like you to look at urgently.

Heyho chaps..
Not a word hereabouts about scoopit. But hey... its generating traffic and thats what matters. Thanks Russell!
What amazes me about vista is that it is not showing up in logs even thoough it is getting so hard to buy a computer without it.
All Dells now comes as standard. Ditto dick smith. Seems to me that if computer manufacturers and retailers start to find it hard to sell hardware then we will see Redmond pushed into reconsidering some of their dafter ideas.
For my part I will start using Vista only when the DRM is removed and it actually works.... ETA March 2008 or later.

Might have to listen on radionz.co.nz

David,
I am pleased you posted this I was starting to think I was the only one still interested in the question of how long can Brash keep telling us porkies on this subject.
After an initial interest in the subject most media now seem to be willing to now give not only Don but also John a passo n this question.
Brash Responds – I Didn't Read The Email Either!
Dr Don Brash Explains Himself To National Radio
It is kinda astonishing to me how he manages to wriggle out of being confronted on the lying issue in all his interviews.
"I did not knowingly mislead the public"
yeah right.
