Hard News: Crashing the party before it starts, in reply to
The treating law dates back to before they had (in England) a secret ballot, when a politician could buy voters and expect them to stay bought. Arguably a secret ballot prevents this.
Although with the current ridiculous enthusiasm for internet voting, vote-buying could make a comeback - it's as easy as sending a screenshot in and receiving dollars.
A good reason to keep/extend ballot box voting.

Surely one person's unsafe cycle is another's unicycle/fixie/mountain bike?
Aren't bikes officially supposed to have bells and mudguards, etc?

If the Party Party is "treating", where does that leave the Picnic for the Planet organised by the Green Party soon? Or the equivalent National party events, where they listen to Frank Sinatra and the like (I surmise)?

corruptly, ... either before, during, or after an election, directly or indirectly gives or provides, or pays wholly or in part the expense of giving or providing, any food, drink, entertainment, or provision to or for any person
I can understand the need for $3k of Edgelering.
Before during or after an election could mean "any time, ever". But Parliament didn't say that, so does "before" create an implied term?
Free WiFi isn't food or drink or provisions (assuming the latter refers to food and the like). Is it entertainment?
And what's "corruptly". Can you influence voters uncorruptly, e.g by advertising?
Also, any internet site with ads is essentially providing information and entertainment in return for a readers attention to the advertising. If a party runs banner ads on an entertainment site, is that "treating"?

A bit too low res to show the menu, or is that an NDA'd item?
I wish we had something like the Workers Beer Company in NZ?

I think there's a clause in the Liquor Act that requires the bar contract for large events to be given to an industrial cleaning company that will maintain huge queues and shite beer. For our own good, obviously.

By the same argument, shouldn't minor assault on adults also be legalised on the grounds that a criminal prosecution is unlikely to help the situation for either party?

I reckon a jackhammer going full bore would be better than most of their output - I mean, it can't be racist, sexist or Justin Bieber.

I don't quite get why a broadcaster would have a commercial interest in a public transport project. Are they worried people won't listen to the radio when commuting by train instead of car? Or are they just objecting on normal right-wing pave-the-earth principles?
