If anyone would like me to stop boring them with my holiday snaps, speak now or I'll go on forever. :)

Quite - and while I had some pretty harsh things to say about faith-based critics of C4 broadcasting that episode of South Park I'd note that Muslims, Christians and Jewish folks managed to express their displeasure in perfectly peaceful, lawful and non-violent ways. You know, like exercising their freedoms of speech, assembly and recourse to the Broadcasting Standards Authority.

Islam is a fundamentalist religion. What the prophet says is fundamentally correct. The prophet laid down a lot of sayings about how society should function so Islam has a very political function built in. And a lot of what the prophet said was harsh.
Angus: I could make the same statement about some imaginary monolith called "Christianity" based on the Republican presidential primaries and their election campaign. And it would also be obnoxiously reductive. I don’t have a tone sheriff badge around here, but I think over a billion Muslims who exist in a complex webs of theological, social and political contexts across the face of the planet deserve the same civility and simple intellectual honesty I not only expect – but demand – as a Catholic. A Catholic, for the record, who wishes Cardinal Pell would take a vow of silence and stop being a rapist-enabling embarrassment.

And I've learnt so much from Emma! She has helped to open up and refine my views on a whole lot of things.
So much this with a side order of co-signature. I suspect my base code views on most things haven't changed a lot over the years, but they've become a lot more textured and nuanced. Which is not a bad thing.
Also a value-adder in life when people are willing to politely (more or less) but firmly (on a strictly amateur basis) spank your arse when you're foolish enough to show it in public.

Speaking of lazy op eds, anyone have the fortitude to read all of Bob Jones’ epistle in the herald ?
I hit myself in the face with my laptop after the iridology puff piece and the latest round of "oy noes, Auckland is being ruined by a super-slutty mega brothel" NIMBY-ism. I guess it's cheaper than paying a thug to come around every morning and hit one.

in that a state broadcaster has more incumbent responsibility to uphold ethical standards than does a privately owned regional newspaper.
There's not a word in that I'd agree with. Sorry.

Quite. Frankly I don’t think job creation (for Paul Henry) is terribly high on the vast right-wing conspiracy bucket list. But, hey… let’s hope market forces really are in play at TVNZ. Henry corpsed in Australia’s notoriously tacky, cut-throat and unsentimental breakfast television market, and Would I Lie To You? isn’t exactly crushing the ratings for Three. Stick a fork in Paul, folks, he’s done.
I’m not clear on what his contractual situation is with TV3, but I assume any buying out of his contract would be occasion for a shitstorm.
Can't imagine it would be cheap either, especially at a time I get the clear impression Three isn't exactly awash in the dough-ray-me.
