There actually are some honourable people out there, and Andi Brotherston appears to be one of them.
Here is a quote of Brotherston's which was made after the e-mail was released and she was (subsequently) contacted for comment. Taken from this morning's Herald:
""Ms Brotherston said last night that Henry had made it very clear he was sorry for what he had said.
"I know Paul Henry very well and I absolutely, categorically know he never set out to offend anyone or to upset anyone and neither did I, neither of us meant to do that," she said."
Firstly, she thinks Henry is sorry. Seriously?
Secondly, she thinks he didn't mean to offend anyone. Again, seriously?
For me, that takes quite a lot of the shine off her resignation offer.

I wish there was a word for "person you are in a civil union with"
I was going to say that I'm sure the Germans have one, and we should 'borrow-word' it into English.
In Italian we have the lovely word compagno/compagna
But we should use the beautiful Italian one instead.
It's a reflex, like women laughing when a man gets kicked in the balls.
Ok, I laughed at this. Does that make me a gender-traitor, or just gender-confused?

I believe that in California you can swim and ski on the same day too, maybe that's why Hollywood is there.
Lots of reliable sun. Early film needed lots of light.
It's also about as far away as you can get from the East Coast and still remain in the same country.
Why is this relevant?
Because Thomas Edison owned a lot of patents relating to film. And usually used a goon squad to collect from various small production houses in NY.
As wiki puts it: "Many worked with equipment for which they did not own the rights, and thus filming in New York could be dangerous; it was close to Edison's Company headquarters, and to agents the company set out to seize cameras....in 1913 many movie-makers headed west to avoid the fees imposed by Thomas Edison, who owned patents on the movie-making process."

Equal Opportunity forms in the UK also have a "White Other" option as well as White British
Although the first thing that sprang to mind as suitable for putting in the 'other' space after 'white' was: 'man at the hammersmith palais'.
The second thing was 'trash'. Which is of course heavily freighted with it's own racist baggage.

I think he's talking more about how dwelling for too long on the idea of a week with Nessa and Smithy could cause one to become unbalanced. Possibly terminally. In the same way as thinking about things from beyond which seem to exist in too many dimensions at once can cause mental imbalance.
Therefore, a counter is needed to bring one back into balance.

Ben Gracewood, hats off to you. Firstly for having a heart that you listen to, and secondly for having the spine to actually do what it's telling you to do.

Move to France: what have you got, Toulouse?

I don't think it's something people really do so much as shorthand for "Yes, we are just that awesome."
Well, if you really wanted the trifecta, you'd live in Tolouse. Skiing in the Alps, swimming in the med, and high culture right on your doorstep.

Yet More Hobbit
Be careful. If not physically addictive, this stuff is highly hobbit-forming.
Shane Cortese seems to spend half his screen-time this series with his head between Antonia Prebble's legs
And remember, goblin your food is bad for your elf.

You also don't have to be too long in Vancouver, Canada before you stumble over a Hollywood crew.
This site lists over 200 films shot there and the city has stood in for Boston, the Bronx, Chicago, Washington DC . . .Vancover infamously stands in for the Bronx in 'Rumble in the Bronx'. In some of the long shots later in the film, you can clearly see a snow-capped mountain range in the background. A view that might surprise your average New Yorker.
Still, a two-for-one offer of urban decay and breathtaking scenery is not ot be sniffed at.
