Ben Goldacre in the Guardian too has been looking at ssri drugs. He is not convinced that it is seratonin that is necessarily at fault here and points out that
there is a drug called tianeptine – a selective serotonin reuptake enhancer, not an inhibitor – and yet research shows this drug is a pretty effective treatment for depression too.
There are some interesting links to research and papers published in his blog.

Since a lot of the animals are nocturnal you get to see (and hear them) them during their waking hours which is apparently awesome
Indeed...the Singapore zoo puts on a night safari where one can be driven through the zoo or walk. Well worth it...great atmosphere.

Totally off topic but regarding the loss of 5? undersea cables in the Middle East
Iran is totally cut off. Do you think it might have anything to do with Iran's intended opening of its oil bourse? *s*

. So my husband, born and raised in Texas, could not become a NZ passport-holder without renouncing his US citizenship.
Aaah.. off the top of my head,NZ doesn't ask that one renounces any previously held citizenship when getting NZ citizenship. The Americans may see it differently.

If the world wants a more reality based Pres then perhaps the world's criticism of the US should be a bit more reality based - when Clinton was in office a lot of it wasn't.
Fair comment. We didn't hear the same level of noise in the 90's when US policy on Iraq occassioned as many deaths there as current US policy has.
What a difference a 'nice' chap makes.

there needs to still be something wrong with it for National to continue to oppose it.
National was for it before they were against it...with the reservation about the time period being extended out to include the whole year of an election.
I think National sees it as a wedge issue now....

A paltry number of paranoid dickheads turn up for a rubbish protest in auckland and it makes headline news. WTF!
Perhaps it is because the cause is media driven, rather than anything else.
A headline to the effect that '1,316,700 people didn't turn up' to the protest in Auckland would hardly seem newsworthy...let alone plastered on the front page of a publication that thunders every five years or so...
Then again one won't see the headline to the effect that 122,890 folk didn't turn up at the demo in support of Ngai Tuhoe in Dunedin yesterday...

And I note that this particular "Shut It Down" campaign has somehow avoided being labelled "political correctness gone mad". That of course is reserved for the points of view Family First doesn't share.
heh...I guess the boycott isn't any form of social engineering then...

Oh BTW hope to see you all at the March against the Electoral finance Bill, 10 am Aotea Square, Auckland tomorrow. Fun.
Yeah...seems Bob will be there .
"Hi - Bob McCoskrie from Family First. I’m passionate about issues affecting the family.
I’m sure there are many issues you’re passionate about also.
So if you value freedom of expression and the right of NZ’ers to participate in the political process, then you should be concerned about the Electoral Finance Bill. We believe it’s an invasion of our most basic human right – the right to have our views and your views heard. Please join us for a public demonstration and march down Queen St this Saturday." -
I look forward to Family First previewing the doco on Prime this sunday night....
