@Hilary
Sorry. We only get the paper copy here.
It's pretty much desparation - even by people who know, deep inside, that it won't work.
-
Threadjack with apologies.
(Lost Russell's address.)
Interesting article on "Autism Cures" in the latest Scientific Amercian.

I'd like to make a Friday contribution, if I may: a good song about cheap flights. Particularly good if you've ever flown Ryanair.

Regarding "other Dunedin stories": I felt distinctly creepy watching the drama last night on TV One. Dunedin is a small place. (Just one of the things that makes it such a lovely place to live.)
I guess we're used to seeing dramas about people who are still alive, but seldom get to see drama productions about people we actually know. Like "Out of the Blue", this programme set me wondering what people thought of their portrayal on screen. I wonder if any approaches were made beforehand, asking for cooperation or permission? Perhaps it's not legally necessary and, I guess for some folks, that's enough.
It all seemed somehow uncomfortable: invasive, perhaps.

@Paul
Sorry if I'm teaching my grandmother to suck eggs, but I'm pretty sure the "Dunedin Sound" was a term concocted by Brent Hansen and Simon Morris during the making of 4 documentaries (on music in 4 NZ cities) as part of Radio With Pictures. I worked on the programme not long after those programmes aired, and remember challenging them - in a jokey, blokey, caring and sharing way - a good way, Paul - about having made the term up for the programme, and they didn't actually SAY that they hadn't....The point is, although Flying Nun were certainly a (big) factor, it wasn't only about that. At least, I don't think it was.
I always think of the Dunedin Sound as being about strumming like hell, instead of lead breaks.
