  • OnPoint: Taskforce 2025: A Space Odyssey,

Some DPB payments are under $200 a week.

Okay, but how many would not also receive an accomodation benefit. You really have to include that in the calculation.

    (and ta!)

  • OnPoint: Taskforce 2025: A Space Odyssey,

Can somebody enlighten me on what is the current level of benefits, say for somebody with a permanent disability?

Current rates for Invalid's benefit. Accomodation Supplement should be added to that; rates not available online.

Suffice to say that $10k pa would represent a significact cut in most (almost all?) cases.

Catching up with Austraila? Another NAct con.

From Brian Easton in the Listener, August 15, 2009:

Now National and Act have agreed to set a “concrete goal of closing the income gap with Australia by 2025”, 16 years away. The historical record shows the divergence from Australia began in 1966, 43 years ago. So they expect we will catch up two-and-a-half times faster than we got behind. Yeah, right....

...[A]ny member of the commission – indeed the entire commission – is being invited to say there is little we can do to attain income parity with Australia by 2025. That is the research evidence, and is almost certainly what any freethinker will conclude.

Why is it this blog seems habituated by left wing radicals out of
sync with the rest of society in general ?

Hey, if you have something useful to say about SST / anti-smacking / referendum / whatever then why not just put your point of view across like everyone else, instead of being such a little baby about it?

Goff’s speech was stupid and wrong on so many levels. We deserve better than this. - The Standard

Craig, you call that "not quite as egregiously hacky as I expected"? There's just no pleasing you.

  • Hard News: A Strange Surprise,

Just yer standard minijack. I am getting sound through the left ear and occasionally through the right, so it obviously something to do with the connection. Do you know if they can be repaired?

Yep. Chop it off, get a new jack from Dick Smith for ... $5.95?, solder it on (make sure you get your left / right correct.)

If that sounds like more trouble than it's worth, any repair place will be able to do that for peanuts.

  • Hard News: A Strange Surprise,

I've found that iPod earphones fit neatly into a "Jols" (sugar-free sweets) tin.

I just wrap 'em around the iPod, and have never had any trouble.

Sony headphones give you pretty incredible bang for your buck on a cost/fidelity basis, but the build these days (headphones, as opposed to earphones) is just crap.

Geoff, do the noise-cancelling models have a standard minijack?
