  • Hard News: Asking for a Contribution, in reply to Jackie Clark,

Many years ago, when I was a good Catholic living in Devonport, I was asked to complete the local history of the parish church (St. Francis de Sales and All Souls). Part of that history focussed on the actions of a priest, Father Terry (although he preferred to be called Dr. Terry), in the 1960s who posted on a noticeboard who, and how much, had donated monies to in the weekly collection; this, understandably, peeved a great number of parishioners and eventually a complaint was made to the Bishop and the practice was stopped. The priest in question never admitted fault and the people where glad to be rid of him when he moved on.

(Of interest to conspiracy theorists, the other major story in the history was an account of how the Freemason-controlled borough council tried to block the building of the current church of St. Francis de Sales and all Souls. This was an example of an actual plot against the local Catholics; the minutes of the council meetings are cited in the book and they make for interesting reading.)

Anyone reading Kiwiblog on this? You should; John Ansell's breathtaking optimism that Brash will be PM after the next election is, well, gloriously mad, and it just gets better with every comment he makes.

He apologised profusely for the texture of his felafel but I can confirm that Fiona found me eating it with a spoon straight from the dish towards the end of the party, when I thought no one was looking; it was delicious.

Whilst no money has passed hands between Mr. Brown and myself I can confirm that I have drunk his whisky, and surely that is a bond stronger than money between a man and his master.

I'm rather propose a cock-up rather than a conspiracy theory... Wait, if you got the show because of a cock-up, then surely that's worse than being given the show due to a conspiracy...

This is definitely a hole I can't dig myself out of.

You got "Media 7" for services to the government? Does Top Shelf know? The conspiracy must run very deep indeed.

I don't think my idea works without some dose of future technology; I'm imagining a semi-automous roving camera which sends its data to a set of AIs that monitor the data-streams to ensure nothing gets modified along the way and can then be appealed to by both the prosecution and the defence.

Obviously what we need is for every police patrol to be accompanied by a TV doco crew.

I, for one, do not think that would be a bad idea at all.

That’s either a distinction without a difference, or one that should have been made a lot more clearly.

It's not a distinction without a difference; there is a lot of footage of activists outside of court, parliament and businesses heckling or trying to get comment from others. The Morse footage is just more of that kind of thing. I, for one, thought it was quite clear, in the context of the rest of the documentary. Perhaps your viewing differed.
