  • Cracker: A Whale of a Tale,

vaguely lefty, snooty, intellectual audience of PAS loathes and despises the TV news

Speak for yourself. I loathe it because it's largely crap, and I'm a vaguely righty, amenable ... Wait, what?

  • Up Front: A Word in Your Ear,

Or be a fool for a few minutes.

I once wrote and sang a song during a Tangi for a family member. My turn came after a group of 14 children with angelic voices had sung a Waiata in perfect harmony, bringing most to tears.

There were tears of another kind after my song, but in spite of the fear and embarrassment, I count it amongst my greatest, and most humbling, experiences. It seems to me you get a lot of points for trying, but none for sitting with your arms crossed wishing things would move on to the food. Which I have also done.

  • Field Theory: Settle a bet,

We used to play a little game on nerd sites where you tried to pick a movie from the quote, and it was worth fewer points the more quotes people needed to get it.

    1. "You egg!"
    2. "We’re taking this bloody car to Invercargill, boy”
    3. "Cook the man some fucking eggs!"
    4. “I’ve only been Pakeha for one minute and already I hate you Maori”.
    5. “I know what to do about mother”

The first three I remembered, but the last two I found when checking the exact phrase for 'Invercargill' (I thought it was 'I'm') and found this*.

*Contains answers to above spot quiz ;-)

    And the winner is;
    “I’m a Derek, and Dereks don’t run”

  • Field Theory: Settle a bet,

I think technically this came from AP1

Yeah, but that was 1999, and I can't remember back that far ;-)
    Ok you caught me cheating.

This list was sort of interesting.

    AFI's 100 YEARS...100 MOVIE QUOTES (2005)

List of the 400 nominated movie quotes.

List of the 100 winning quotes.

From 2005, but the only quote from the noughties to make the cut was 'My precious'.

  • Field Theory: Settle a bet,

My kids can quote Toy Story, Monsters Inc, Ice Age (1 & 2), Up, and sing most songs from tweenie TV shows. Being not yet 10, I think that qualifies.

So I agree with JackElder. I'm an old fart with short term memory loss (my words) ;-)

Oh, 'and this one time, at band camp...' AP 2 - 2001. Yuss!

  • Hard News: Standing with the Poo,

In an unguarded moment after something posted here I had the misfortune of reading some of Perigo's ravings. 'Sterilise... blah blah.'

As described above, the wire brush hardly did it justice. If you stumble upon it by accident, then it won't take long for your own content filter to hit the 'GMTFOH' button, and if you meant to be there, well then there you are. No amount of filtering is going to help.

    Which union are they in?

  • Up Front: A Word in Your Ear,

See, I don't think it is that simple, or clear cut and it certainly seems to be a subject on which becoming unarticulated is not uncommon.

    Triple negative! Sweet.

  • Up Front: A Word in Your Ear,

Islander: Perhaps you can allow me the fact that I thought better of it and deleted it? Before seeing your reply.

For what it's worth (given your 'no respect' comment, probably not much) I am also happy to call myself a New Zealander, Pakeha, and as I mentioned Kiwi. I'm also a little prone to hyperbole and contrariness in unhelpful situations. So sue me.

Thanks for the put down though. Great way to start the day.
