talk about a hanging thread!

Well, damn. That at least established that the embedding didn't work.
Do you have to put the URL in square brackets like so?[Nah -- you just hadn't pasted in the URL correctly -- it had funny characters in it. -- RB]

I'm not sure if this will work (I can't see YouTube content on my computer, so I'm having to place blind trust in a URL from a Google search), but with any luck this should be a clip of Mitch Benn from the Now Show, attacking a recent cover of Hallelujah, but using the same tune. Might make an interesting test case for your daughter's reaction.

Also... has she seen Shrek ? If so, how did she react to the use of the song there (that real tear-jerker of a scene, when S. has given up on marrying Fiona)? I guess what I'm really asking is, could that be what she's reacting to rather than the song itself, given the lyrical content would normally be a little over 3-y.o. level.

That would only make her angrier.
I shouldn't laugh, but the image that comes to mind is:
"If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine." -
Interesting. Neither do any single men. Some suggestions:
(i) "Making a home for yourself" is seen as something every independent adult should do? so is a default assumption, and can't be used as a special "work" label?
or is it the more basic fact that
(ii) when you're single, the bulk of the work involved goes unwitnessed by others?
or is it that
(iii) when you're single, you don't bother so much with the details (because there's no witnesses, and no impact on others) -
Ben:
I have read dozens of articles by him that carried a strong feeling of autopilot, reusing the same examples, talking about the same points over and again. Which can be boring since he also talks at great length. And confrontational, since what he is saying is controversial.
But none of that actually refutes anything he says. That absolutely nails Chomsky -- the same description can also be applied to his writings on linguistics, where he is usually addressing important questions that need to be discussed in our field, and providing interesting possible answers for them, and yet I often find myself unconvinced or even actively repelled by his argument style.

Chuck's English = not OK
Chuck's argument = not OK
but still: Killing Chuck = not OK, OK? -
... and there you go, three responses within one minute. Who said lefties can't ... no, hang on, you actually said you wouldn't get a response on Kiwiblog!

<checks card> "Bingo!"
Hey, Emma, what was the prize in that game?
