Punk crossed over with the Sex Pistols. Punk never crossed over until Nirvana hit in 1991...

Won't be watching it again.
Me neitherDidn't catch it last night but when I have it seems very forced and just uncomfortable to watch, unfortunately much like Sunrise was...
Having said that, brilliant interview with McVicar, it is about time he was held to account, espceially on his support for Bruce Emery (scary).
It seems to be if you disagree with the SST (not to be confused with the other SST) you are on the side of the criminals, which shows how polarising the debate has fallen to on law and order

I refuse to go anywhere with a surcharge. What bugs me is hospitality is one of the lowest paying jobs, yet owners still complain about having to pay their staff more on a few days per year. Do you see department stores, supermarkets, even smaller shops charging more? No they usually have sales. In Australia most people get paid extra for working weekends, you don't see them charging a surcharge
As for the shops not opening, surely we can go a few days without having people flocking to shops. Its great to see people out walking the waterfront with family, Te Papa etc full. Sure its a mild inconvenience but remember when shops couldn't open on Sunday???

I don;t understand why they didn't keep the original version. The original is lame and the feelers will obviously make it lamer...

I think Lady Gaga's doing a bit more than getting her tits out. She's much more interesting than that.
Yes, she is also dry humping multiple people at multiple times. Call me conservative (im not) but that isn't 'empowering' it is more going with what the guys want. I'm not a woman, but this notion of girl power actually creates the opposite effect. Also her music is not very good, which doesn't help her cause.

From a music perspective, but culture and media in general I found this article timely (don;t agree with the Lady Gaga bit at the bottom)
http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2010/mar/25/joan-jett-kathleen-hanna-angry-womenI suppose growing up in the early 90's when there was quite a groundswell of musicians who were 'angry' but more importantly had something to say, its really frustrating to see the downward spiral that has occured with female popular music, ie getting you tits out is deemed to be 'groundbreaking' see Lady Gaga. It disturbs me that young girls are growing up with this notion. Maybe they need to see a Sleater-Kinney (RIP) t-shirt from a wee while ago: "Show me your riffs".

Off topic, but would the news media just leave Bailey Kuariki the fuck alone. Do they go after the other people involved in the same way??

My Dad always tells me the story about the 1960 one when they were living in Napier. He said they drove off into the country to stay with family when the alert was raised (this was less than 30 years after 1931 so there was due panic). But he also said a lot of people went down to the beach to watch it.... I guess some things never change.
