Yes, indeed, 红枣/hóngzǎo/red dates. They grow around the edges of my father in law's apple orchard. And these ones you can eat straight from the tree - no chemicals. I'm no great fan of red dates, myself, but they are quite good in rice porridge.

Our haul. Ahem. Their haul. While, I hauled it back home from the orchard, as in my father in law tied the sack closed and put it in the boot of the car. Alright, me and the wee one played while the others actually picked the dates.
We also have apples, although not many at this stage. I know, wrong season...

Hard News: Irony Deficient, in reply to
if our laws protected satire and parody better
Please enlighten. After all, a brief sift through the archives of NZ on Screen (love that site, by the way) reveals plenty of satire and parody from times past, even of politicians whose reputation suggests they would not have taken kindly to being satirised or parodied.
But reading through this thread I'm starting to think the best way to satirise the current state of NZ politics would be to produce a drama series about a competent government that engaged respectfully with its citizens.

Welcome to The Chevron Bar & Grill…
Looks more classic Citroen Grill to me, though perhaps a bar is the best place for such things.

John Key should be first in line for a political grilling. David Shearer and Russel Norman should be jockeying for pole position in the race to drag key over the coals. Journalists should be first in line for keeping pressure on the police to investigate this thoroughly.
