Oh well, could always use the time to read some Binney, I guess.

Good call. We all live in encircled lands. Some of us are just slower than others to realise it.

Further, the whiff of a revanchist Maori sovereignty movement actually achieving its goals would utterly debase our economy, because the most productive and best educated - the white middle class - would basically just up sticks and move to Australia.

I'm grateful there are such benchmarks made available to other posters here. Thank you Tom, and balls to all that.

Tom: get a grip on yourself, will you?

    Thank you. Treason? Inciteful* much?

    *Yes, I know.

  • 2010: The Cultural YTD,

New People are slaves, soldiers, and toys of the rich in a chilling near future in which calorie companies rule the world, the oil age has passed, and the side effects of bio-engineered plagues run rampant across the globe.

Wait, this is based on fact, right? The question is, how near?

In related news, hopefully Timeout has it in stock, cause I want it now.

  • Hard News: What we have really lost,

Trial date has to wait until August next year because that's the first time that a court room of sufficient size for 18 defendants is available for 12 weeks.

The Lion's Hut sleeps 40. They could rent it during the off season.

Just as Maori should never be made to feel like outsiders in our own country.

    Too late.

Also, not too long ago, and maybe still, there has been fairly heavy intimidation going on around some entrances to Te Urewera. This move may only serve to increase the likelihood if this happening.

As mentioned, 95% of New Zealanders probably don't venture into that territory. I grew up near it, and spent a lot of time tramping around it on school camps and so on. It seemed in good hands.

I also disagree that we would feel like trespassers, as once these issues are clearly defined, and we know on what basis we have access, then mutual respect is possible.

In the current context, and especially after the way this was done, there is very little mutual respect involved. [redacted]

  • Cracker: Cup of Tea and a new Electoral System,

I do agree the 'cannibalism' thing was a media beat up.

    Stupid thing to say though.

Half expected this to serve Key's head on a platter to the opposition. They should be having him for breakfast, but they seem intend on eating public sentiment. Personally I'd take him with a grain of salt, but others just eat him up. Well, eat your heart out Mr Key, you're the meat in the sandwich on this one.

Ok, so maybe less wine, and more crackers...

  • 2010: The Cultural YTD,

I'm reading a Jasper Fforde. The Eyre Affair.

Yes madcap, but entertaining. I'm three Murakamis in so far, so that was a great tip, thanks. Even the autobiographical marathon book was sort of compelling, and strangely philosophical.

  • 2010: The Cultural YTD,

    Just saw Hurt Locker

Saw it on a plane last week, and it even withstood a small screen and average sound quality. Hardly what you'd call glorifying war. Well, don't imagine they'll be using it as a recruitment video.

Oh god, I see nihilism only minutes away.

    I haven't mentioned Crystal Castles have I?

Found them recently too. Also loving School of Seven Bells.
