I believe "shut the consensual intercourse up" may be the preferred phrase, actually.

Oh no you don't. It's all the the great vowel shift's fault.

Yeah, people don't like me much.
But then the people who do like you, like you a lot, right? Personally I wouldn't have it any other way.
Yeah, for me the first vowel in "woman" is the same as the vowel in "book".
You say "wooman"? Or "bok"? I am confused and will bring some recording equipment and a glottologist to our next meeting.

I should also point out that I first became aware of this in the writings of second year university students. And it's not as if I was asking to make punching them in the face part of my job either - just to mark it as a mistake. (I was willing to throw the punching in for free.)

Whut-whut!
For what it's worth (I know, I know) I'm pretty sure I pronounce both syllables differently, although the main stress is on the first one for sure. What gets me though is how many people don't differentiate in writing. One woman, two woman. ARGH!

I suspect my preference is from circa 1983 Unifems, Emma. My mates and I used to, whenever any MAN used to be talking bollocks about women, remind them not so gently that we were W I M M I N.
I wonder if the resulting trauma is what has made so many contemporary New Zealanders unable to form the plural of "woman".

Plus he is also the male sub-lead in my second favourite film of all time.
You liked The Last Remake of Beau Geste that much?

Yes, a textbook case of the pot calling the kettle stupid.

I know I am.

I believe the correct response is "yes... of sorts...".
I've often made mine Nina Power's "a doctor - but not the useful kind".
