I heard a visiting ethicist speak the other day (in the cathedral of all places - which had terrible acoustics btw). He talks to businesses and policy makers and other important people in Australia. He said we need to do more ethic-ing. I quite liked that.

There's a large white cross on the top of Mt Victoria at Easter and Christmas (it's there now) which I find quite comforting as a strong symbol of forgiveness and hope, presiding over the city. I see it also as a reminder of that universal ethic of treating others as you would like to be treated.
What I dislike, though, is fundamentalism of any kind, whether Christian, Islamic or atheist evangelism.

Before Casey Kasem there was the Lever Hit Parade.
(By the way I loved Little Feat but not sure what happened to the LPs I once owned - they must have gone somewhere with my beloved Zappa collection.)

Interesting piece by Brian Easton about the significance of poem/song Jerusalem in NZ politics and culture.

We have had a lot of rugby and national anthems in our house over the years. There is a whole genre of variable quality national anthems that we will hear later this year at the Olympics. (And maybe some stumbles like Borat's invention being played as the official Kazakhstan anthem at some international competition recently.)

I'd love to post a YouTube clip of his cover version of Eric Clapton's Wonderful Tonight ...
No you wouldn't.

This thread has really touched a nerve and what a lot of suggestions in a short space of time! I think I could cope with most of them, and can even bear the busking bagpiper outside the window every afternoon. But – and I apologise as I have mentioned this before – I have been tormented for the last 12 years by a CD which has proved unbreakable and impossible to lose or destroy. A certain member of the family remains a fan of Paul Holmes while fully realising the powerfully negative affect on anyone else forced to endure the same sound waves.

It was sunburn weather at the Basin Reserve yesterday. After a week of rain.

The tapas at the Havana Bar are superb (and suit all dietary requirements) and they use an interesting assortment of dishes including old Temuka ware. There is also a door disguised as a bookcase in this restaurant, which is in two old cottages sandwiched between two high rises in an obscure side street. Out-of- towners, I think it is The place to go to in Wellington at the moment (but don't think they take bookings). Just checking whether we got anything worthy of posting here.

A birthday weekend here so having a go at photographing various yummy things involved. You are right that it is a lot harder than you think.
