  • Southerly: Public Address Science…,

"Taking the a brilliant concept further, livestock could be equipped with such an engine to be activated when their time is up. Propelled by their own otherwise ozone-hole blasting emissions, they could deliver themselves unto the tables of the Old World, snap frozen by dint of their voyage through the stratosphere."

I know where to find a pig, if testing is required.

BTW Juha, this reminds me of something Gary McCormack said at a poetry reading (when he was a poet), after noting that one person on ght eomestic purposes benefit costs us per year, as much as 10 metres of motorway.

he said that all on the DPB should wear uniforms, so we can see what our roads would have looked like.

    Um... what about them?

  • Hard News: No Friends of Science,

8 years ago we were told planes would be dropping out of the sky when the Millennium Bug hit ...

Actually, I think this sort of scenario was touted as the worst case. The fact that there were almost no Y2K problems says more about the hard work that companies (including the one I worked for) put into their systems to make sure there were no worst case scenarios.

Just because nothing eventually happened doesn't mean that prophets were necessarily deluded. We found & fixed date related problems that would have seriously inconvenienced some of our clients.

  • Hard News: A depressing day in court,

I wonder where he learned that hitting people and using objects to hit people is an effective way to get what he wants...

I'm guessing it wasn't on the web.

The story from one of Trouts books

Hah. Yes. The brilliant Kilgore Trout. I remeber the farting & tap dancing alien.

Have you read Venus on the Halfshell by Kilgore Trout himself (not sure who really wrote it, but it wasn't Vonnegut)?

  • Hard News: The Civility Code,

"snap spidey. but gardening isn't strange... why, it's natural even"

Which brings us back to hobby hose restrictions...

Why was the Thunderbirds film so lame?

Made by people who didn't know, and didn't care.

BTW - what I REALLY wanted, but never got, was a Man From Uncle Spy Kit & Johnny Seven Gun (fired plastic bullets & grenades - only one kid in our village had one. And he wasn't me.)
