  • Hard News: A revolting piece of shit,

Anyone read the Canvas article on the weekend about feminism?

Yes, and I found it quite disappointing. 3? 4? pages of not very much at all that could have been condensed into a couple of paragraphs at the front end; 'this is where it started, this is where we are now, everyone got that? OK, lets talk about something interesting'.

Instead the majority of the article just spent it's time re-heating a few stale old riffs about how feminism is a dirty word for some people today, and how women thought they could have it all but couldn't.

An opportunity missed, in my opinion. To borrow a quote:

Why is it that (mostly unpaid) feminist bloggers are at the cutting edge of debate, and columnists in the mass media are left pontificating about nothing in particular?

    Sorry I missed your pun.

Given how awful all of them are, I thought you'd be more sorry now you've seen it :)

Is not the Divine, is Urizen http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urizen

Just to draw a line (ahaha) under this one, a line on the Urizen as it were, I was punning (badly) on one of Blake's poems, Jerusalem:

And did those feet in ancient time.
    Walk upon Englands mountains green:
And was the holy Lamb of God,
    On Englands pleasant pastures seen!

    And did the Countenance Divine,
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?

    Feet/feat. D'ya see what I did there?

So calm down, and keep your Demiurges under control...

Theory often lags practice by a millenium or three :)

Ah, it was less of a feat in ancient times, when the Countenance Divine shone forth upon our clouded hills.

I always thought his paintings were a bit scarier than his poetry.

  • Hard News: The back of a bloody envelope,

The missus has had an interesting idea about trying to start some sort of letter writing campaign from overseas - playing on the 'loss of tourist revenue' angle: 'dear sir, I was going to come to NZ and spend lots of hard currency, but now I'm not going to because I've realised you're not clean and green after all. Yours, disgusted of the UK'.

Maybe try to get a few o/s papers to pick it up and run with it, like the economist did?

Dunno how you'd go about organising it. Just planting the seed, really...

  • Hard News: Sweet Rocksteady,

Three from a London band from back in my day.

Not as old school, and a bit more dub, than a few on here.

And just because we haven't had enough references to Babylon yet.

And finally, if you ever wondered what a dub version of The Ruts would sound like (a bit more tweety and annoying than I remember from last time I listened to it, but still....)

Now that my memory has been a bit more jogged, I've remembered that I've only ever heard it from one guy (albeit on many separate occasions), and he's from the 'Naki originally.
