Speaker: Properly Public: It's our information, in reply to
Amazing how many agencies whisper to their staff that “stamp it with draft so it can’t be released under the OIA"…
Except that draft documents are OIA-able, as are hand-written meeting notes, audio recordings, photographs, even making officials reconstruct discussions and thought processes. Not a lot of people realise that.
Also, material received by government agencies becomes 'official information' as soon as it arrives.

All I do with scanned docs and pdfs that try to control content is upload them to Google Docs and let Google do the work - Tried this the CERA and AG BIMs and Google extracted all the text in both.
Ah, I didn't try that, John.

That's entirely correct - for the leader, as there are constitutional and legislative reasons why there needs to be a Leader of the Opposition. However, no one spokesperson from any party in opposition to the Government of the day can claim to be the "Opposition spokesperson for X". They can be the Labour spokesperson, or the Green spokesperson or even the Mana spokesperson, at a pinch, but not the Opposition spokesperson, unless all parties in opposition so designate them.

One can learn to hammer a nail or cook a basic meal fairly quickly and easily, but learning to drive requires much more practice over a much longer period of time.
Also, one moment of distraction while using a hammer is likely to cause only a sore thumb, rather than wipe out a family coming the other way.

Horses don’t have to be worked to death any more.
What Islander said. No-one but an arsehole works a horse to death. Sometimes, Ben, your arguments smack more of wanting an argument than of making a logical point.

The expectation of our rights and governance being solidly held and performed is so low because the power has been captured by vested interests in the absence of a formal written constitution enshrined in law.
I don't agree. You only have to look at the charade that is the US Senate and House of Reps to see that a written constitution is no guarantee at all. That's not to say we shouldn't have one, but it's not a panacea.

Gerry the Bouncer in full-on intimidation mode. Will no one rid us of this foul priest (legally of course)?
Turbulent. Both apply.

with MMP why does Labour construe as the opposition?
All the non-coalition parties form the opposition. Labour gets more questions because they're allocated proportionately. Blame the lazy media who still refer to "the Opposition spokesperson".
