  • Hard News: Off the back of the deck,

    Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere

Obscure NZ connection: I wonder if Neil's aware that a very big band (at the time), Human Instinct covered this song, pretty much note for note, as a single and on their album Burning Up Years in 1969 but thought they they could get away with changing it's name and crediting it to one Jessie Harper.

Maybe they thought no-one would notice.

  • OnPoint: Have Sex. Will Travel.,

The door touts were quite aggressive, and politely declining wasn't effective,

Just learn 'no' or "I'm not interested' in the local language and never look anyone in the eye. or be polite about it. Your, western, not wanting to be rude is what touts and hawkers rely on. And never, ever, discuss, talk to, or say 'maybe later'. It works pretty much anywhere in Asia.

  • Current Status: Holidays,

My mum and I went halves on a kilo of hugely expensive Otago cherries just before Christmas. Worth every penny

They were one of the joys of my trip back to NZ at Xmas. Now I need to find an excuse to come back during Bluff season....

  • Hard News: Off the back of the deck,

Just watching Bush's farewell and wondering if everyone there had to check their shoes at the door. The man remains a delusional monster until the very end.

  • Speaker: Copyright Must Change,

but you were clearly pretty pissed off with the nature of the exchange by the time you signed off yesterday, and from my point of view it was the kind of thing that can kill this place

More frustrated than pissed off. I have a pretty thick skin after all these years. But Rob also emailed and apologised for any offence caused, which was gracious of him too.

Incidentally, if anyone's interested this is a part of what Rob does.

  • Speaker: Copyright Must Change,

Copyright should have prevented what happened to him but no-one thought too much about it until after he was dead.

It should have but the piracy angle (quite legal piracy mind) in the USA, where the publishers are now mostly owned by the record labels or their parent groups, after they were bought up in the 50s onwards, continues. Now its just been renamed as Controlled Composition or Maximum Aggregate Mechanical Penny Royalty Limit. But it still stinks and, repeating myself again, is another reason why the majors don't deserve a break.

Ever wondered why there were 14 songs on a UK Beatles album, but 10 on an American one?

  • Hard News: Conversation Starters,

hell, yeah. late on a Sunday night,

After RWP...it became a big night for a while.

One of the most enjoyable days of my life was spent at Portmerion, on acid.

There goes your next American visa.

    It wasn't at all crowded

It was silly crowded when we were there. But then I think you may have been inhabiting your own world that day.
