  • Hard News: The Mega Conspiracy, in reply to Peter Graham,

The USG case against Megaupload is based on emails they probably got off that server.

The eMails, in themselves, are only incriminating if they relate to actions within the US, surely?.

    Oh, come on.
    Let's get real here....

Lenny now, at the age of 70 ish, has to travel the world singing for his supper thanks to the powers that be in the industry that left him with very little considering what he gave us.
In my mind I live in his Mansion, whether it be on a hill or not.

The problem does not lie with the artists, whether they be producers, arrangers, engineers or writers and performers. The problem is, as always, the accountants and Lawyers. Those that see the price but not the value, the money but not the meaning.

    MU had servers in Virginia

Would it be so surprising that they had no infringing material on those servers?
If I were they then I would have made sure that any suspect files were not on US servers. Then again, having offending files on those servers could be used as plausible deniability of prior knowledge.

  • Hard News: Getting to the bottom of…, in reply to BenWilson,

This trap is the idea that the only thing humans do that is of any value is work for money, and they must therefore be compelled to work by being deprived of the ability to survive if they don’t work for money.

Well, Some people just don't want to work, lazy...

In 1797, the London Missionary Society put its first missionaries on the shores of Tahiti. Fourteen years later they had not made one convert, even though the happy Tahitians provided them with servants galore, built their houses and fed them.
The attempt to make the Tahitians into service growers of sugar cane failed and the good Christian Mr. Orsmond, deciding that “a bountiful nature diminishes men’s natural desire to work,” had all the breadfruit trees cut down. Such practices, as well as diseases (brought from outside), such as syphilis, tuberculosis and smallpox reduced the original population (estimated by Cook at 200,000) to 6,000 after thirty years of missionary rule.

Now, about that Mansion on the Hill, seems to be a popular meme amongs songsters.

Anyway, my point was really about how the music industry behaves more like the ravenous bugblatter beast of Traal than an honest agent of artisans. This they have done for years because the business of recording used to be the exclusive province of those with the wherewithal to afford the equipment. Now the equipment is, relatively, cheap as chips they still want control of the artists performance and will stomp on their potential customers to make that point.

I am not opposed to those whose primary motivation is the cash

I really don't know what to say to that but then I find the desire for wealth above all else totally repugnant.

Perhaps if we all just stuck to downloading our music it would discourage those that are just in it for the money and we can get back to real, honest music.
You can sing for your supper but don't expect a mansion on the hill.
