    certainly is.

Definitely is in my son's case, having experienced before and after.

Over 500 people have read this already.

Yes, and pretty much everyone who writes seems to have been away on holiday so we've had plenty of pictures but not much discussion going on for a few weeks on any topic. Give it a bit more time.

  • Hard News: Works in progress,

Is the existing northwestern cycleway going to be at all rerouted in all of this? It's always been a big hole in an otherwise very good cycleway (especially since the lower streets of Kingsland were cut out) that the cycleway is forced to depart from the motorway and rise up (and it's quite a rise) to Unitec, then cross Carrington Rd with no bike friendly option at all (in fact it's quite especially bike unfriendly, with high kerbs, sharp corners with pedestrians, and those horrible trees that drop little morningstars on the ground), before entering a suburban street, then rejoining the cycleway at the bottom of that street at a sharp angle where another street comes out.

In all of the gigantic work done there, is it going to come to pass that the cycleway could follow the motorway under the Carrington Rd bridge and coast sweetly down to where it resumes at Chamberlain? In short, could the vertical detour through Pt Chev become optional for every rider on the cycleway (and every pedestrian too) who hails from further out than Pt Chev?

  • Capture: Movement, in reply to Russell Brown,

That was a sight that mightily impressed my boys as we drove past. Why were they all lined up for Christmas, like a row of gifts? Were they having their own party?

    Not a peep since.

Someone probably explained to him that it's not defamation if it's true.

How long was it ever going to be before they'd turn on each other when others began to ignore them? It's the ACT party of blogs.

  • Up Front: Adric and the Art of Asking, in reply to Emma Hart,

I’ll drag his corpse around for the rest of my life. Seems weird.

Yes, like buried depleted uranium, within the cranium.

I heard about a new potential treatment in an Applied Maths course I took this year – the lecturer was so keen he used up good lecture time just telling us about it, as it was his research, but it was bloody interesting. Essentially, it’s using soundwaves focused on a point to do the same as radiation, but without any of the irradiation side effects, and with tighter control over the burn radius. Called High-intensity focused ultrasound, I think. I kept thinking “So what are you doing lecturing us?? Go invent it, finish it. There’s people who need it yesterday”.

In clinical testing, I believe*. Looks very promising.

*Well, actually some versions have been around for a while. His research was on focusing it more optimally.

Sincerely hoping your Aunt rests in peace.

Thank you. We'll be putting her ashes with her parents soon, just across the road from where I last took her to lunch at Palmers. But I think of her as at rest now.
