And he’s never made comments on how I looked ever again. Unless I ask.

    And then I bet he's v. careful! :)

The other, and much more serious IMHO one is the absence of tax on the family home’s capital gain. Again, I think this is unfair and also inflationary.

I know a couple who bought up houses, lived in them as they did them up, and then flicked them off for a profit. It was a business for them. It may have changed recently, but I seem to remember that at that stage you had to have lived in the house for at least two years to attract no interest from the powers-that-be. However, as this couple had had a succession of two-year-long stays, they were feeling just a little scared that someone at IRD would notice.

My vote for aging fabulously goes to Susan Sarandon.

Yes, Jackie, I agree with you. She's beautiful because she's herself.

I went on to read her blog about ghastly February and wondered if she had ever heard of the concept of "family anniversaries", where horrible things like death, serious illness and financial calamities seem to happen around the same time in any given year. That can be really eye-opening for someone making discoveries about self. (Oops - tend to be a bit thread-jacking sometimes. Sorry all!)

Sometimes I like it so much I go shopping for dresses without her. True story.

My brother chose clothes for me when I had a period of total ineptness, and they became my favourites.

  • Up Front: Say When,

I have a friend who told me - she said she'd only ever told another person this - that she was 73! Tell you what - she has the most glorious cleavage. She doesn't wear low-cut scooped tops, but there's always a glimpse of breasts and cleavage to be caught. Not flaunting if you like, which might be a bit ew. Just there.

Anyway, Emma, there's another way of looking at being thirty-nine - you are now in your fortieth year.

    Enjoy!

Parties that have lost power should be doing that.

What about parties that are in power, but seem to be just the "yes-people" to the Nats' bidding? I caught Hone H. just towards the end of the interview with Mark Sainsbury, and despite what I may feel about this man, what he was saying made a lot of sense.

  • Speaker: What PACE actually does, in reply to Jacqui Dunn,

    It was totally transforming.

I meant "transporting", but the other word works as well.

I’ve no problem being identified as a member of a cognitive subspecies.

I'd have a problem identifying you as that. Thank you for your post - I found it illuminating.
