How so? If the site still cannot be accessed, knowing its name is not going to help you reach it.

Oversea proxies, anonymising proxies, Tor, etc.

Even the Great Firewall can be readily bypassed, and that's a massive, massive apparatus of state. This is a voluntary filter, enforced by ISPs, with no consequence if they fail. It wouldn't be very hard to get through.

And yes. I'd like to see private companies annually publish all the (non child pornography) sites they block, and the reason.

But wouldn't publication defeat the point of *any* block?

Also, it would make sense for them to be on private Netnanny-style filters - the Govt ones wouldn't stop normal porn.

Good point. Although my guess would be that the airports would use the official government filter rather than build their own.

I think they're privately operated kiosks and subscribe to private filter lists. As I recall (and this was quite a few years ago), I couldn't get on the Onion, because that was porn.

Not to be all ironic or anything, but I believe that private internet kiosk operators should be able to cripple their own connection any way that they like, and charge whatever extortionary prices they like - though not telling people that the connection is crippled before they fork out $3/min for it is not okay.

  • OnPoint: Budget 2010: What’d you expect?,

Does anybody know of a lobby group for the taxpayers of 2035 or similar? Seriously - a media-savvy group that could actually point out the implications of policy and tax decisions for any 30 year old who actually intends to still be around NZ in their 50s could be quite effective. Let alone pointing out to the baby boomers what they're doing to their grandkids young adulthood...

I'd like to do that. I've got interest from others. Haven't actually put any work into it yet, but this is part of my plan for 2011.

And yet Vernon Small tells us that the budget is "impressive" and "stunning" budget for debt reduction.

    GLARE.

    FISK: ON.

Nono. Hold onto the pony, cover your pony mortgage and expenses entirely from renting it out, and then sell it off with a big capital gain.

    Depends on interest rates.

So is it OK with them if we withhold their salaries until 2014 and if they're right they get paid? You know like performance based pay.

Sir, you missed the punchline. We can wait till 2014, and it'll still be impossible to know if they were right or wrong.
