  • Hard News: A Full Sense of Nationhood,

Pedantry came up, so I'm discussing it.

You introduced it to the conversation, both times, is all I'm sayin'. :)

  • Hard News: A Full Sense of Nationhood,

You're just saying that a high level of formality is required in some circumstances. I don't disagree, even if I think it's totally lame. I adhere to it myself, generally, just to avoid stupid arguments with pedants. Not because I agree with them, but because it's a waste of life even talking to a pedant about the value of pedantry, since there's absolutely no way they will ever see it from your point of view.

This really is laughable, Ben. This is the second time this week that you've started a 'stupid pedantry argument' all by yourself, and in both cases in response to no actual pedantry!

  • Radiation: The death of television, again,

TV2 usually run The Wire in the winter late at night

The last 3 seasons have run at 00:30-01:50-ish on Monday nights (ie Tuesday mornings), so may do again.

I know they're all characters from The Wire, but presumably the list is a reference to something else, and I'm totally missing it.

They were all members of the Barksdale organisation, at least.

  • Hard News: Effectively Friday,

Yikes. I work in a pretty normal workplace (bank central office), and someone would most certainly not get away with such an outburst. Same with any regular workplace I’ve previously worked.

You're talking about offices. Try a building site; Christian Bale's got nothing on some of those guys.

  • Up Front: Girls Can Do Anything. You…,

In cricket-related matters, I just might have used the phrase 'fuck off you cheating cheating lying fucking bastard' last night, and not in re the women's game. Fortunately my family finds this behaviour endearing.

Yep, that sure was a sweeet win.

  • Speaker: Copyright Must Change,

But also, it's blatantly a derivative work, and so the original photographer deserves something of the dosh.

Ironically, the original photographer would deserve none of the dosh in any case since, by being an employee of Associated Press, all rights in the work are relinquished.

Maybe that's not so ironic; perhaps it's even emblematic of current copyright issues, having two parties arguing over ownership of a work, of which neither is the original creator.

    Artistically OK, but legally nah.

I tend to agree. It seems that Mr. Fairey has quite a history of inappropriate appropriations.

liken this to leaving your keys in your car and unscrupulous flatmates teenagers or neighbours take said car and get parking fines, run red lights on and speed in camera areas etc.

if you're not responsible for securing your property who is?

Actually, in the above examples, you are not considered responsible for the penalties incurred, whether the vehicle was secure or not.

The discussion of Einstein's "theory" should really be left to those better qualified to give an opinion, like John Key.
