  • Hard News: Transferring wealth to Wellington,

    The Goldmine.

Yeah, see your fault-line and raise you one, two, three (counting on fingers, sorry) four... heaps of volcanoes. Smart-as we is up here.

  • Hard News: Transferring wealth to Wellington,

Personally, I assumed the headline was about buying lumps of delicious pastry-wrapped beef.

Alternate headlines: Give Wellington the boot.

    Oh, sorry, tautology. </troll>

  • Hard News: Transferring wealth to Wellington,

There's no need to go looking for offence where none exists.

What he said. Having lived in Wellington, I support both The Hurricanes (Auckland Rugby? Meh!) and The Phoenix, and love nothing better than spending days in the sun at the basin, as I did last week.

But if you're going to get precious about the difference between 'The Beehive' and 'Wellington', or 'Wellingtonians' and 'Public Servants' then the jokes will continue to write themselves.

And you think we're proud of our current crop of both public servants and sports teams? Throw some back. We can take it.

  • Hard News: Transferring wealth to Wellington,

    This song's for Ian.
I don't know what to do
    I need a rendezvous

    Is that fruity enough?

Extraordinary. Still, maybe they are just better at catching people out.

  • Hard News: Ready for the Weekend,

Listening to Conan and the Mockasins and realized why it had that slight air of familiarity. It is certainly unique and very cool, but it did remind me of The Legendary Pink Dots, who I loved back in the 80s.

The first two songs on Snat are just brilliant. The rest is growing on me.

  • Hard News: The back of a bloody envelope,

I think that's part of the reason young people like the one Hilary describes upthread exist; because he's so willing to basically say whatever sounds good, they just assume that it must be a) true and b) said with forethought.

The same could be said of 'older people' with entrenched ideas who will not bend to the weight of new evidence, however robust and overwhelming it might be. Rationality and open-mindedness should go hand in hand.

But of course, not in this case.
Stay off our land! Oh wait, your land? I mean, their land? Whose land is it?

    Anti-Intellectualism on a pale horse.

I just want to report that my daughter has just asked me for some "Mona Lisa".

Don't you mean Mona Lisa on a pale horse? Well, next to it at least.
    Who... Nahhhh!

I'm just trying to be helpful. No, really.

I did, but that was like years ago.

This is me resisting quoting you out of context. Yeah, literally years ago. Who knew?

Now I know why Gio disappeared from that other discussion that was going down this very road. It must start to feel like sandbagging against a Tsunami at times.

    Has anyone mentioned cave paintings?
