  • Hard News: Incomplete, inaccurate and misleading,

Which of Key's own MPs and allies are likely find all these shenanigans distasteful? How much would it take for them to start plotting?

  • Hard News: Incomplete, inaccurate and misleading,

What a wonderfully bracing blast of fresh air and honesty has hit the land over the past week. There's going to be quite a few people rushing to get a coat!

"… Little is looking more and more like an inspired choice."
Especially after his interviews on Q&A and The Nation this weekend. His critics are looking sillier by the minute.

So it isn't 'credible' that Little is leader … so what do we do - sack him? And while actually adopting UBI is unlikely to be possible, just the fact that he is a fan of such radical 'fairness' sends a resounding message. He also made a strong point of how much he admired Parker's strategy for the economy, so hang fire on that one perhaps.

"… there are many choices for people who kinda like some things Labour (used to?) stand for but don’t necessarily want to vote for whatever it is that Little-Labour might turn out to want."
?? So people are leaving Labour because of 'what they might turn out to want'? Wouldn't it make more sense to hang around and _find out_ what they want before making the decision to leave?

Thanks for that. I am not part of the group who 'strongly believe that all you need to win an election is the union and Maori vote", and feel sure that he will broaden his support - particularly if he continues as he has started today. Talk about hit the ground running. A great interview this morning and ave just listened to his eloquent, impassioned rant about the appalling behaviour of Roger Sutton and his mates. Stirring!

I'd hoped for a post here to throw some light on Russell Brown's comment that the result seems "disastrous ... for the prospects of the centre-left". How is having a strong base with unions and Maori damaging for the projects of the 'centre-left'? Who then is the 'centre-left' , and what are these 'prospects' which have been so tragically annihilated?

"But I hope you are not suggesting I (and others) don’t say what I think just because it might be bad for Labour?"
I think the suggestion might rather be that you identify the source of your criticism a little more acutely. What really motivates it? Does it really have solid legs to stand on? I've seen a lot of language but very few facts.

"It makes a good change, I think, from the same 20-odd closeted Parliamentarians bickering over ABC or ABR or whatever their silly minds come up with next."
Bingo. It's also nice to have a leader who doesn't care about "charisma" (and hasn't Key rather given "charisma" a bad name?)
I too am baffled by the number of melodramatic comments here - "tragedy! crisis! disaster!" - particularly as I've never heard Little suggesting any course of action that would make sense of these reactions.

Yes, Parker has made it clear that he let Caucus know ages ago that if he didn’t win the leadership he wouldn’t want finance; it’s not a reaction to Little winning.
Re: Little – I agree we should wait and see. Look how widely admired Nanaia Mahuta has become since she’s had a chance to reveal herself.
Robertson may have ‘hosed in’ in the Caucus and Party votes, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he would have been the best person. I think Andrew Little has got the potential to evolve into a much more deeply popular leader.
